I am thinking of buying an STI Executive. I must admit, I am new to 1911s. But, after years of shooting ONLY HK handguns, I picked up an STI Ranger II. I am now a convert.... the gun pointed more naturally, the trigger was fantastic, and I was far more accurate with it than an HK. So, I am a recent 1911 convert, with a lot to learn.

Anyway, thinking of buying an STI Executive.... anyone have any opinions or experience with this particular gun?

I had a fully loaded Edge in .40 for while,...awesome gun. Very well built...
Fully loaded Edge =Executive=USPSA=legend...all the same design with various differences to make each one unique. You can't go wrong with any of the above..

Easy there UncleWalther, slow down.

The STI 2011 series of guns is more IPSC/competition than anything else. What you get when you buy one is potential for excellence, or what most people call a competition platform. Think of it as a Harley you tinker with and setup($$$), then spend time and money keeping it that way. I have one, I know.

The STI 1911 series has much of the same parts but in a single stack. Probably as high end as you can get in that price range, without buying truly handmade custom jobs.

Oh, and the executive is hard chromed and the edge is not. What some people do is buy the edge, shoot the crap out of it in competition and practice until is it considered loose. Then have it hard chromed to tighten it up.

If you have the money to spend, which most likely you do if your off your HK habit. Why not buy a higher end 1911? Most all of the 1911 prodcers make a higher end line ie, custom shop, gold combat, "loaded" model ...etc.

Or you could really be the envy on your street buy a handmade custom 1911 from a company like Ed Brown, or the many others in that range.

Here is your fair warning. The 1911 habit is stronger than the HK habit.

Oh, and the executive is hard chromed and the edge is not.
No.

Edges are available in Blue and Hard Chrome; as are most of the STI 2011/1911 line.
We have stocked Edges in Hard Chrome for years and sold plenty directly and through dealers.

As for the rest of your post, well, everyone is entitled to thier personal opinion...I disagree...Brown and Wilson 1911s are in the same category as STI.

It looks like you have shot a STI already. The only thing to work out from here on is, single stack or double stack. You will not regret buying an STI in any of the formats available.
STI owner. Ordering an STI Trojan SS for betterhalf.

2011 has a polymer grip, but a full metal dustcover (most do),...double stack... usually it is purchased in .40....usually.

1911 is all metal, single stack,...usually not full length dust cover...most people (although I have seen many 9mm) get them in .45..

By the time you load up an Edge with all the options your basically at the Executive's price point.
And it is an excellent pistol. So long as you like hard chroming and grey grips.

The best factory trigger I have ever had on a handgun, extremely well fitted parts, and a beautiful pistol to boot (pictures don't do it justice). The only drawback is the price but like a PE-90, the quality is worth it.

They are excellent guns. Don't even think twice about it if you have the money. All of the STI 2011 frame guns are a great buy.

I ordered an STI Tactical 4.15, in .45Auto, with a chromed slide, early in January. Am impatiently awaiting its arrival. But, now that Executive has caught my eye. Not sure I can justify owning both, and I've already put a deposit on the Tactical. Waiting is the hardest part
