I ordered an STI USPSA, and I am trying to decide if I should get the fibre optic front sight, or just stick with the standard one. I don't like 3-dot sights, and prefer tradition target notch-and-post style sights. Not sure exactly where the fibre optic front sight fits in that continuum. Anyone have any experience or opinions of this sight?

get the FO unit. All my pistols have it. The only thing to remember is that it is not a "red dot",... LOL....i shot a few times just putting the dot on paper and pressing the trigger,....when the sights were not lined up. The the black metal of the sights for precise shots,...and the FO for just about everything else.
I have a green fibre optic on my Trojan, nice and bright for our dim range so it works good for me.
Am wondering though if it was smaller in diameter would it make for a more precise sight ? I can move the muzzle around a fair bit and still keep the optic green, nice for fast target aquisition, but not as precise as the old notch and post IMO.
All in all I like fiber optic sights, but I only put them on 2 guns just to mix it up a bit.

I have the larger fibre optic Tru-Glo on my Sig. If you are going from sunlight (nice & bright sight) to shadow, you will find the sight not as useful. Like night sights which are brighter when the lighting is dim, I have found the fibre optic to be more lighting specific. That being said I am still keeping them on the Sig, Kimber and Glock 34 as overall I do think they are the best option available so far. An interesting note is that because the fibre optic rods are prone to falling out of pistols (slide snap) I lost the front rod on my Sig and found I shot very well anyway by lining up & looking through the hole where the rod goes. Put the dot of light on the target and fire. It was a bit funny as I actually shot a bit better as it allowed me to see the target in the various lighting conditions of sun & shadow that day. I am leaving the front rod out for now and will do comparisons against the other pistols. If I were more of an inventor like Dlask or one of the other gun gurus out there I would come up with a sight that gave constant light in day or night conditions by using a miniature battery or other electrical source fitting into the area of the front sight.
