Hello, I am looking to purchase my first firearm when I receive my licence in a couple of weeks and I was looking at the STI GP6 9mm and the Glock 17 9mm. I would appreciate any input that anyone has on either one of these as to why they would or would not recommend. I am working on a budget as I would like to get a few items when my licence arrives. Thanks

Sti gp6

The STI GP6 is actually a Grand power i believe made in Slovakia .
From what i read it's a very sturdy pistol ,the round count supposedly a hundred thousand before any barrel distortion , anyway see if you can get one from a dealer here in Canada . (Apparently they are not allowed to sell grand powers in the USA) SAVE Hundreds of $$$$ for the exact same gun.

Have the GP 6 and a Glock 19, both nice guns, but the trigger on the GP6 is a world better than almost any handgun I've owned or shot. And there's been a few dozen. The only quirk on the GP6 is re-assembly after field stripping, a wee bit of a trick required, but does that darn gun shoot!

The glock 17 is an excellent service pistol. I love mine....it is a struggle getting use to shooting it though, but I am willing to work on it. its very reliable, rugged, and accurate (at least more accurate than me)

As TDC said though, selecting a pistol will be based on your intended style of shooting. I do action shooting, so a glock was an obvious choice for a first pistol.

All down to the one that feels the best.
I have shot both and would pick the STI over the Glock.
Will keep my SP01 Phantom. You just can't beat a CZ.:D

Haven't shot one yet. I know people rave about STI, but given the similarity, I would weigh in favour of the Glock due to it's proven and tested record until it is shown the STI can do something better for longer, etc.
