This is my dilemma : i want a 10mm 1911. The STI caught my eye but don't have any idea about the reliability and the overall quality. The kimber is interesting too at 1k less. What do you think?
The Dan Wesson is almost impossible to find and The Colt Delta Elite too. The Nighthawk is too much expensive for me. I already have a glock 20.
What would be your choice and why?

Those are two very different guns....Perfect 10 is by far a superior rig but twice the price and a 2011 vs 1911.
If you're partial to single stack 1911's take a look at the STI Nitro 10......For me single stack is my preference.
Delta Elite are cool cause they're Colt, but lack modern options.

There is a new Para Hunter that peaks my interest, primarily because the CGN'r that has it I think had a Kimber....hopefully he'll chime in here.

Dan Wesson Razorback RZ-10 would be a great choice, but good luck finding one.

I bought a Kimber Stainless Target II in 10mm, and I was expecting am Ok 1911. I truly was impressed! It just as accurate as my Colt Delta Elite, and it was a nice fit and finish. I am satisfied customer.

I thought about The Para but my friend had a 1911 and it was jamming all The time. Anyone has experience with The hunter?

Kimber a risky business? Can you elaborate?
My personal experience is with a Kimber 84 308, really bad rifle finally got a full credit for it, since i started handguns, i read all i can find on any handguns for future purchases, i noticed that Kimber 1911 are having a lot of mixed reviews, STI dont have mixed reviews...
It is a good thing that you come around praising your Kimber...
At this point in my handguns buying carrer, i am not comfy buying one, i need a lot of convincing... Just saying... JP.

I have one, I'm really happy with it. Para has really stepped up their quality control in the last year, I've been hearing nothing but good things about the new line of guns they have. I've also owned a Kimber 10mm, it was great as well, I regret selling it. The Perfect 10 is a great gun, but it's not $2700+ great. IMHO best bang for the buck 1911 10mm is the Para or Kimber.

Oh yes they do.

i have over a dozen 1911's and my Kimber is my fav
granted i dont have any Nighthawks or Les's in the safe to compare it too.
but for my money and from friends and family Kimber 1911's have been 100% for everyone i shoot with.
have not had any complaints about them and everyone is over the moon about the fit and finish (in my shooting circle).

STI ive only shot a couple and i havnt been impressed enough to buy one yet.

That Para makes me want one... It'd be wasted on the distances I shoot at, but since when does practicality come into pistol purchases in Canada? Lol

I bought an STI Sentry in .40 a couple years ago and had it simply bored out to accommodate the 10mm. Best pistol I have - hyper, super, mega accurate, solid unit. They will be burying me with this one.

What concerns me about Kimber is not only their MIM qty of parts (not a huge deal, but matters), is that you hear complaints of their stainless steel rusting... If they cheap out on the alloy of stainless, what other items are they skipping?

They look great, don't get me wrong, but I need a lot more hands on experience with them before I buy one. It seems they hold this value to some, whereas many others question why people value them at all? I might have to own a couple to find out..

I only got my STI last night, but it is a new level of fit that I will be gauging all mid priced 1911's from now on. It's clear it was hand fitted and locks up nice and tight. It makes my other two 1911's feel a little sloppy... All three are in similar price ranges.

Best bet is read reviews AND handle them if possible. At the end of the day your the one that has to live with the gun. I don't have enough first hand experience to make an informed comment on Kimber or Para but feel that what I see with this STI will mean I'll own a couple more in the near future.

That first-blush review from a new STI owner is good to hear. I hope to have mine by the end of next week. First one also.

From what I read here, I think I'd take New Para over Kimber if I had to buy sight unseen.

And ALL of my pistols are bought sight unseen.

Off on a tangent: Interesting article in Calibre on new para vs old. Wow...I'd take norc over old para at the same price lol

I like STI's but I've seen many of the 9mm's with chronic feeding problems.

I have also seen STIs with feeding issues but to be fair, it's usually been with ####ty ACT mags with feed lips made of wilted lettuce.

Other than that, my only real complaint about them is the appalling rollmarking they often feature. If I want an ugly, functional gun, I'll shoot my glocks.
