STI perfect 10 or Kimber TLE II in 10mm?

Feeding issues are mag or ammo related....STI makes one of the best running 9mm 1911's.

That's right but from my experience I've found some STI 9mm's to be very finicky with what mags you use. From my own experience I had a brand new STI trojan 9mm that kept nosediving with the factory mags. Then I bought some Wilson mags, same problem. Then I bought some cobra mags, same problem.

I was at the range last week and there were 2 guys there both with STI 9mm trojans. They were trying to figure out why one of the guns worked with all the mags and the other gun only worked with a couple of the mags.

I'm not knocking STI's because they are fit very nicely and are very accurate guns and I'm sure there are many out there that run with 100% reliability, however as I said I have seen STI 9mm's with chronic feeding problems.

i dont know what to tell you guys.
ive got a Kimber and its flawless.
my dad has a higher end Kimber and its the nicest shooting and fit and finish gun ive ever seen.
ive shot a couple STI's and i still dont own one, that right there speaks volumes to me.
not saying ill never own one but i havnt run into one yet that has made me take my wallet out yet.

as to Kimber quality, besides the same people on the boards here constantly hating on Kimbers i have yet to see one break or fail or rust.
hell i havnt even see a Norc rust yet!

but i think, and some people may not agree with me here so ill put on my flame suit, but STI is more of a mid range work horse gun and the Kimbers are more of the mid to high range luxury gun. At least that is how i see them when i think of the spectrum of 1911's.

STI = 1/2 tonne super cab truck (with leather seats and nice sound system)
Kimber = Hummer / BMW / Lexus

I think preference is based on experience and like the Ford vs Chevy argument you're going to get all kinds of different experiences and preferences. I think you're going to be drawn to a gun based on how it looks, how much it costs and what you've heard about it. When you actually buy it you will now have the experience of using it which is either going to confirm or reject your first impression of liking it enough to buy it. From there you're either going to be loyal or not. I think you can hit or miss with just about any of the brands out there, however I think the percentage of hits or misses probably varies greatly between producers. I've heard good and bad about just about every brand out there including some of the really expensive ones, however I think the percentage of misses for STI would be very low. For Kimber I have no experience with them but from what I've read I would think the percentage of misses may be a little higher than for the STI's but again I have no personal experience with them.

Does that make any sense at all or am I just rambling along in my own fantasy world?

i have over a dozen 1911's and my Kimber is my fav
granted i dont have any Nighthawks or Les's in the safe to compare it too.
but for my money and from friends and family Kimber 1911's have been 100% for everyone i shoot with.
have not had any complaints about them and everyone is over the moon about the fit and finish (in my shooting circle).

STI ive only shot a couple and i havnt been impressed enough to buy one yet.

Have you shot a STI RangeMaster??

Other than that, my only real complaint about them is the appalling rollmarking they often feature. If I want an ugly, functional gun, I'll shoot my glocks.

Yup. I *hate* billboard sized roll marks on a 1911. I made certain that the new Trojan with the small lettering was available or I'd not have gotten it. RIA is another offender, but I see they are reducing the size of them too, and Wolverine evidently orders the SAM pistols without markings. If you look on the shooters arms home page they have some of the most fugly roll marks going!

I don't mind the one on the R1, though. It's just a name and it looks classy, rather than in some font that you'd find in a newspaper.

Man...if the Glocks didn't shoot as well as they do I'd dump them. They *are* The Ugly Stick.

I run Cobras with no issues....Wilsons would be my second choice.

I also run my ammo at max. C.O.L (long).....most factory stuff will run with no issue with the exception of some 147 Gr.
You have to watch some commercially reloaded stuff as some of it's short.....I think some of the CZ crowd likes 'em a bit shorter.

Some people also are in a position to see hundreds of thousands of rounds go down range through various makes/models and have actual experience of what runs well, what runs well then breaks, and what won't run at all.

Lots of opinions with no facts..

...
Just remember most of the people that talk #### about Kimbers have never owned one, same goes with STI.

Depending on your level of involvement with the firearms industry, it can be kind of hilarious to have people tell you "but you've never owned XYZ!"

No kidding...I was there when they tried to figure out what was making Pin ABC shear off every 300 rounds...and considering they couldn't solve it, yeah, no doubt I didn't buy one.

"ownership" is a very low threshold of information for decision-making.

I have a Kimber Elite in 10mm and am extremely happy with it. Great gun and extremely accurate. Wouldn't sell it at all however I do have to mention that when I got it, it would lock the slide back almost every shot until I fixed it myself by polishing a part inside. Now it will only lock back with hot loaded Speer Gold Dots. probably have to polish a little more.

I love the gun though and have fired many hundreds of mostly medium loads rounds through it.

I've had lots of 1911's and recently purchased a Kimber pro carry in 9mm. Works fine with the Kimber mags so far. Pretty accurate with cast hand loads. Very soft shooting platform so nice for beginners and the like. Will it last? I have no idea but I've found you pretty much have to evaluate 1911's on an individual basis. I think STI's are very nice pistols but as others have said my particular Ranger in 40 would not feed will enough to use in a match and I finally gave up on it.

I have been shooting 10mm since spring of 1988 have 4 10mm handguns right now my favorite is my new to me this year Kimber Stainless Target 11.

If this gun had come out in 1988 I won't have ever bought another 10mm.
