I am considering buying one as a slim single stack 9 round 9mm in a tough 1911 frame seems ideal for a longterm purchase.

Does anyone have any experience as to the reliability and accuracy of this gun? I've heard some people in Edmonton have had problems with STI guns but the gunforums in the states seem to like them a lot.

I have a Trojan and a Ranger II, both in .45. Never a problem, very reliable, tight and accurate.

My next purchase will be a Trojan Stainless in 9mm.

I'm interested in this gun as well. I'm a little worried that the shorter slide cycle combined with STI's proprietary "recoil master" might create feeding/ejection problems. And from what I read on the net, the original Ranger was somewhat unreliable, though Ranger II is a different design.

Buddy, how many rounds do you have through your Ranger Ii and Trojan?

I have around 1000 rounds through my Trojan - bought it new. And I have put about 250 rounds through the Ranger II - bought this one used with I think around 100 or so rounds through it.

Both of these guns have never had a problem with FTF, FTE's, stovepiping or anything else. They send what ever I feed them downrange without a hiccup. Mostly 200 gr semi wadcutters and 230gr round nose loaded in a variety of powders and weights along with some factory ammo.

They both had 4 pound triggers right out of the box, I have since lowered them to 3.2 pounds, just my preference. But a nice crisp 4 pounds is not bad right out of the box.

If I had any problems with either gun I would be hesitant about buying another, but as I said my next one will be a Trojan in 9mm. I am hooked on STI. (another Trojan because of the adjustable sights)

Good to know that yours are reliable. I'm thinking of buying a 1911 in .40S&W and STI looks like the only viable option at this point.

I suggest to pay more and get Targetmaster (or Rangemaster) in 9mm. I shot 522 out of 600 in SFC comps with standart ammo before yesterday and still feel that gun shoots better than me.

I just replaced my worn but still functioning recoilmaster in my .40 edge after 30K+ rounds of major loads.

2 stoppages in 30K+ rounds.

No problems here.

I have fired the rangemaster in 9mm,and it is very nice and EXTREMELY accurate.

Wouldn't trade my edge though..:D

edit: I shoot competitively and I wouldn't even consider any other brand if I was buying another 1911. FWIW

try Freedom Ventures, at the top of the page. Keeps us all posted if you buy one. I am looking for a Commander in 9mm too. (One that works)
One that works? Have you had problems with theese pistols or just 9mm in general.I had a Kimber stainless in 9mm and it had feeding issues and was not impressed.Again i dont want to pay s**t load of money for a gun that doesnt function properly.

I had a beautiful Colt series 80 combat commander. It wouldn't feed flatnose bullets reliably as well as several hollowpoints.
I wonder if the design does not work well with 9mm.
Yes you can have them tuned, but you shouldn't have to with a $1200 gun.
