STI recoilmaster vs full lenght one piece guide rod

Are the recoilmaster system offered by STI much an improvement over a regular guide rod? Mine is a one piece and I like the added weight, especially with the low pressure 45acp.

Since I'm switching the caliber and will be working with a comp, is the recoilmaster worth the 110$?

I prefer the full guide rod. I have 3-STI's that came with R-master and ended up replacing them with the full guide rod.

I have 5 STI's and have changed the recoil Master in all my guns. The Recoil Master is good for most loads power factoring 150 to 200 but if you are shooting hot or soft loads then not so good.

i'll be factoring in just under 200 if load calculation are alright, in an open pistol
but ive just had an input that these tend to be weak

oh well I need to change the guide rod anyway, full lenght guide rod will be impossible to remove with the compensator loctited in. Tought I could remove it without removing the bushing but no , just tried it out

So I'll have to look into one.......

They come in two spring weights...the light one is intended for comped guns.

Are you sure about your PF? What weight of bullets are you intending to shooot?

With a 200 PF...you may want to ask Fredom Ventures if a Heavy Recoild Master would be better suited.

Drill a small hole in the guide rod so that you can use a short pin or a straightened staple to capture the spring and spring guide sleeve when the slide is locked open. Then you can disassemble it easily.

i never mentionned the light recoil master, it was pretty clear for me I'd go straight to heavy
bullets are 165gr cause i cant find any 135gr (40cal)

Thing is that the guide rod actually wont even clear the compensator because it is too beefy. And even if there is a hole for a pin in the rod I wont be able to twist the bushing with the compensator in place

Ok, that clarifies things. In the case of a bushing comp I would just go with a 2-piece full length rod. You can just unscrew it from the front when you want to take the gun down. But if you like the feel of the Recoil Master.....
