I just found the Costa V.I.P. 9mm online and I'd have a hard time saying that it is not the absolute coolest gun I have ever laid eyes on. Scoped around in the States and have found the .45 version for $2399 USD but the only place I can find it in Canada is Freedom Ventures, for $3849. Another prime example of incredible Canadian price-gouging!

Any other places carry STI? I know they'd be fairly limited guns due to pricing... so anyone know of a distributor rep looking for an easy bargain sale??

AND the warranty centre. Any retailers wishing to sell STI in Canada will buy from FV first.

That said, yes, STI prices have become absurd as of late (2,200 for a Trojan?!). I understand weaker loony and STI increased price in USD, but jeez...

Yeah, STI pricing has gone nuts. I noticed two Trojans just listed on the EE.....a .40 with extra mags for $2250 and a 9mm for $2000. A couple of years ago FV was listing Trojans at $1450 and you could get 3-400 off of that if you waiting for the Black Friday sale.
Having said that it looks like STI has made a deliberate choice to move up market. They have discontinued most of their cheaper guns, raised prices on others and introduced new models that are well into high end custom 1911 pricing territory.

FWIW that Costa's US price is about $3050 CAD at today's exchange so FV is about $800 high at their CAD list price. I understand there are shipping and customs brokerage/import costs but seriously?

There business model support two tiers of profit; distributor and retailer.
This equals the heavy pricing.
Considering the market size a direct to consumer model would bring prices inline but as they have not done this I would assume they are finding enough consumers to meet existing supply capacity.
Personally, the price is just over inflated and doesn’t offer much value to me.
But, nice looking pistol if you have the cash.

I always go here ############
You just pay shipping and convert then wait maybe 1,5 month
Waiting dor paper work shipping from USA to BC then to your province
But at least no extra cost other then shipping

I find it hilarious that some moderator has gone to the point of banning a name of a business from their acceptable language. They're a cheaper option than IRG, but it's not as cheap as you say. They charge an import fee on top of shipping but still not anywhere near as bad as the $800+ that FV would charge. Now to see if FV sends me back a reply to see about getting a better deal than they offer, before going the import route.

Let us knows how it goes with FV.

So how did you make out finding one of these at a reasonable price? This gun seems to have captured my imagination recently as well.... but probably not for $4000 with taxes and shipping.. :(

After reading this thread I ordered a EVO grip for my STI through #########.h. and could not be happier with their service. They also give LEO Military discount. I will post a review once it arrives.

I have not bought much at all from Freedom Ventures but they have helped many many guys and gals by answering questions on here and on the phone,

as much as I really like to support the local gunshop I would call FV in a heartbeat for anything they carry or stock,

they are cheaper than the local gunshops but their service is great, they know what they speak and helped me with questions on a STI

USPSA model and I have not shot it yet as it is just to nice to get dirty, might get a 9mm barrel or it as it came with a 38 super barrel,

they did not mind spending the few minutes for me and it helped me make the best handgun purchase yet, I will buy whatever I can from them

as they know their stuff, have stock and support our sport what more can you ask

do I like prices on most things, NO I am retired and on a budget, but that is life save your money and spend it on the best stuff you can afford,

FV and nice guys are always included in the same sentence

Your statement is correct, but it doesn't explain any of the $800 FV is adding onto the US street price. They buy at distributor pricing from STI, I would assume, so it's reasonable to suggest they could sell for US street price converted directly into CAD.

They are like any other business that have a monopoly. They charge what the market will bear. Or is it bare . Anyhow, in such a small market it is easy to get exclusive rights to a product from the States since they don't have to deal with multiple distributors and not sell any more of their product. Lower prices might attract a few more buyers but most of the higher end stuff is over 3 grand so the bargain hunters won't be looking for a new one anyways. Good used ones are extremely hard to find, and they're priced even more ridiculous than new ones. And, they are not obliged to sell anything for minimal profit. Might as well get a job at Cabelas for an hourly wage.
