I have been offered an STI Spartan 9 ... looks to be in great shape ... the guy wants $750 ... I have not shot the gun.

I already have a few 9mm's ... Kimber 1911, Shadow, 92A1, P226 ... but for some reason this one has caught my eye ...

Your opinions on this firearm? Comparisons?

Thanks

Spartan is STI's entry level 1911, but very well made & a very accurate shooter.
It will not dissapoint you, considering the price when compared to other brands, which cost twice or more.
simply speaking, it's no beauty queen, but surely was built to be shot.

Got a spartan in .45 (gods caliber apparently) it's the only .45 I've hung onto....big fan of Sti products...will have many more...commander ranger11 next..

Only real problem with STIs is that their finishes just don't stand up. My Ranger II 9mm has probably only been holstered 20 times and I can already see the finish scuffing. However, if that doesn't bother you mechanically they are very good.

Have to agree..the finish is a little thin...but at least 'holster wear' is honest...

Grab that Spartan 9 for $750!.They are not produced anymore(can't figure out why),and are quite hard to find.Ive been very happy with my Spartan, has about 10k through it and I think has had a single malfunction which was probably ammo related,it just runs and runs.It isn't the prettiest gun around, the finish is a bit crude, but it sees hard use in IPSC classic,so if it gets a few scratches,no big deal.Ive bought and sold many 1911s over the years, but this one is a keeper.
