STI Spartan slide stripping

Still haven't done this.

Is it better to pop off the whole adjustable rear sight by sliding it out through the dovetail....or can I just pop off the top part of the rear sight by sliding out the roll pin.

Or are both these methods wrong.

Any help is appreciated

Slide whole sight out as if you pop the pin, it may not stay in its place later and come out when you shoot.

Just for my knowledge sake

Is there any other way? Or is it always the case that a 1911 with adjustable sight has to remove it before disassembling?

Why do you want to remove the sight? Are you looking into re-finishing the slide?
Nobody needs to remove the sights for normal cleaning/oiling...

I'm such an idiot....I was just trying to remove the firing pin and extractor for cleaning. I thought the rear sight had to come off to do this....but I just figured it out.

Its actually quite easy

Stripping the slide is a hell of alot easier than removing the rear sight. Lesson learned. Thanks for the laugh. We all have our moments. Im the guy who dropped the gas piston spring from his CZ858 in the toilet while cleaning it. LOL
