STI Spartan vs Taurus 1911B

Sti

STI's are all very tight fits. Accuracy is by far the best of any 1911, sad to say even Colts.

I have three STIs, no complaints!

I don't know about you but a $1000 1911 made by a South American manufacturer with a spotty past, questionable quality control and absolutely no warranty in the country doesn't like a very good deal to me. I'd much rather shell out the extra few hundred $$$ and pick up an STI.

Don't get me wrong, Taurus is a fine manufacturer, but I wouldn't take chances with it up here. Now if I was down in the US it would be a different story...

The Blackened PT1911 is in the $750 range.
When was the last time you had a 1911 that needed waranty work?

Aren't the Taurus 1911's correct tolerance forged frames and slides?

Yes they are standard 1911.

Has anyone actually had issues fitting other 1911 bits into their Taurus 1911s as a starting basis for a tinker 1911?

No, see above

Some people are making it sound like a worse option than buying a Norinco 1911 Sport(which is a great basis for tinkering I think)

I think some people have an axe to grind with Taurus, and some keep spouting the myth that they are crap with no personal experience to back it up.

After doing some looking around, The Spartan is $879, and the Taurus is $963.
It sorta looks like the Spartan is the better deal.

I'd check those prices again - when I purchased mine it was in the $750 range and the all stainless model was around $850 - I'd shop around.

Raven Concealment advises that their rail holsters for various 1911's will not fit the Taurus

I'm betting that is B/S - I have three holsters for 1911s and it fits them all just fine - as any 1911 should.

None of your holsters are Raven, I take it - they are molded very tightly, there is no give in the holster body - a gun fits, or doesn't - also given the clientel I doubt there's much B/S in the mix. Regardless, as I noted that is minor, and has more to do with frame width at the rail than anything substantive.

Good to know that you've been having good experiences with your Taurus. I would say that lack of support/availability of parts from Taurus was my biggest concern for their OTHER models of which I was interested in(eg 24/7 OSS)....but for a typical 1911, there are parts and tuning service a plenty.

The biggest points for me are that the Taurus is a pretty good bang for the buck 1911 with neat bits on AND the forged frame and slide.

Prior to the PT1911, I would have said that the Spartans were one of the best low budget 1911 over other casted ones like the SA Milspec. (All this, apart from Norincos :D )

For anything over $1000 tax in, I'd probably put my money down to feed a Texan family by picking up an STI Trojan or Ranger.

I'm not even sure any more why I getting a Para PRX745 ....eh...could be good

I like the PT1911, I have shot them and have played with them, all my STI parts fits in and even norc parts are almost 99% interchnagable :D :D

With a PT1911 especially thr PT1911AR, its got the lower rail and its ready to PLAY.

Guess I wasn't looking hard enough, I only saw $900-1000 models. $750 sounds much more reasonable.

I haven't, but like I said Taurus has had some spotty QC. I'd like to know I can get a working replacement if my $750 investment was machined by a Brazilian taking shots under the table.
