STI trojan 5.0 or Ranger II both in 45

So i'm shopping for my first 1911. Narrowed it down to the trojan and the rangerII. shot them both. both awesome 1911s. just wonder if there is any insight you guys may have on both guns to help me decide.

If you are going to compete, get the Trojan. Otherwise go for the Ranger II. IMHO. Both like NAA said if you have the bucks to spare.

I like the looks of my Ranger better but the Trojan is a better shooter. The longer barrel/sight radius makes a big difference. That being said go with your gut and pick the one you like the best.

What are you buying it for and whats the goal to be acheived with these guns?
I actually own both, i could say, in my experience, the ranger is a fun gun while the trojan more of a competition gun.
Both are fun and both are able to compete don't get me wrong.

Hmm, overall it's going to be for range fun and just to have a 1911 cause they are awesome haha
1st dilemma-kinda want the Trojan cause it's specs are closest to the original 1911
2nd-rangerII has the bull barrel and is cheaper. But, barrel is 4.26".
I can't decide.

I've shot 1911 in 5 inch, 4.25 inch Commander, comp guns and the 3(?) inch Officers ACP. As long as you have good fundamentals, any 45 is a joy to shoot. The barrel length should not be a concern.

Instead of buying one of each, i would recomend getting a Les Baer for the same price... Just saying... JP.

The Trojan is the "proper" GI length. But then it has the front slide serrations so that sort of ruins it for me.

Both shoot great but the longer and slightly heavier Trojan won't kick as hard.

I am not a big fan of 1911's. But a friend has a Trojan... everytime I pick it up I keep hitting the bull at 15M.
