STI Trojan 9mm

I would like to know more about these mags, I can't seem to find them on the net.

Also known as Cobra Mags.

Sherri and Virgil Tripp are great people to deal with. I have bought over 30 mags from them over the years in different calibers and lengths and they all are outstanding.

The 9mm are the best I have seen out there. They feed in my Kimber 1911 9mm perfect.

Mine is outstanding for playing IDPA, ESP. Two issues to watch for with any 1911 in 9MM:

1. The slide may or may not lock back after the last round. Cause is usually to heavy a recoil spring for the light loads often used in IDPA. switching to a 10 or 11 lb recoil spring will solve the problem.

2. The foot that elevates the slide lock lever sometimes needs adjustment. Take a screwdriver and carefull apply pressure to the foot of the follower, bending it outwards towards the mag body. I have had mags, including the factory ones, slip over the slide stop when the last round fired causing the slide not to lock back after the last round is fired.

One advantage you do have is by using 9 round mags and starting with 9+1 often leaves you at slide lock for your reloads when engaging taregts with 2 rounds each. This makes for a faster reload in some circumstances. This is similar to shooting CDP with 7 round mags and starting 7+1. We now have the choice of using 10 round mags in our 9MM 1911's.

One thing to remember is you can't switch between the two different mags. If you start a competition with 9 round mags you must complete the whole competition with them. So too, if you start with 10 round mags.

I am verry happy with mine. They are very accurate with low recoil. I use Trip Research 10 round mags.

I use these mags too and they're quite sturdy and reliable. However, has anyone using these mags ever had a problem with their ejector? (The part mounted on the frame and not the ejector on the slide)

I had an ejector snap on me, and I was wondering if the longer 10 round mag had anything to do with it.

I dont think your mag is the problem. Maybe your ejector was made on a Friday lol. I've never seen a extended ejector snap off on a 1911 or 2011

Broken ejector could be caused by the top of you magazines hitting it on a reload with the slide locked back over and over....

Exactly the case. Fitting of extended ejectors to the mags to be used is required. STI doesn't fit thier guns with Wilson Cobra mags, they do it with STI's mag. If anyone else is out there with a STI Trojan and Cobras, have a look to ensure you're not pounding the ejector.

Is this something I could do with a little file....remove some of the top of mag where it would strike ejector ?

I installed the STI Magwell on my Trojan and it works great. I ordered it from Sean. Shipping was fast and it installed easy. Fits like a glove.
