A friend of mine has been hounding me to sell him my .45 Trojan. Pistol has approx. 850 rounds through it, what would be a fair selling price? Thanks in advance for any info.

I concur with the $850 amount for the gun itself and the one or two mags it came with, assuming it is in nice shape.

Obviously, the selling price/availability of a new one will set the bar.

Keep in mind that your buyer need not pay any sales taxes and possible shipping costs, which he would if he bought new (and on a gun of this level, that will add up).

As well, if you've had it since new, then your buddy has the full advantage of knowing the gun since the start, and knowing who shot it and how he took care of it. This is NOT the case when you buy a gun sight unseen over the internet. This has definite added value in my opinion.

Also, any extra mags or accessories would be added to the base price.

Finally, how badly does your buddy want to buy A gun, to buy the EXACT MODEL you own, to buy YOUR SPECIFIC gun?

Ultimately, if I were you, assuming the basic gun is in top shape (normal wear for 850 rds., well cared for), and the buyer is fairly and specifically motivated (which he seems to be), then, relative to all of the costs and hassle of buying new, at an assumed price of $1100 plus taxes plus shipping/acquisition (taxes alone put it at over $1240), and factoring his personal knowledge of the gun's history and owner, if you are inclined to sell, I would offer it for $995 and point out all of the considerations mentioned here. As well, you can threaten to post (or actually post) the gun here on gunnutz as leverage.

Ultimately, you could haggle your way down from there. It depends on how badly you want to sell. In any event, $850 is the bottom as far as I'm concerned and anything lower than that you're just throwing money away.

Christ, I know a guy right now who is teetering on the edge of buying an STI Spartan new, who can't afford a Trojan new, but would snag your Trojan for $850 in a heartbeat.

Marketed properly (including convincing your buyer) you should have no problems getting $850-$999 for that gun (maybe even a bit more if your buyer is specifically 'horny' enough). The $1000 mark does create a bit of a psychological threshold.

Hope this helps!
