STI Trojan slide jammed

After a long wait for my RPAL, SATT, LATT, and transfer papers, finally got a chance to take my STI to the range. STI Trojan 9mm with a STI 22 conversion kit. Cleaned it the night before and was really looking forward to breaking it in. Had problems with the slide not locking on an empty mag but once we worked the slide stop a bit it worked just fine so I thought we were good to go. No problem switching top ends either after cleaning and oil.

Unfortunately, slide jammed after the first couple of shots at the range. Appears that the ejector (?) is not seated properly and somehow was getting pushed up. Tapping it down fixed the problem temporarily but it seized again after a couple of more shots. Disappointed that I didn't get a chance to shoot it but I haven't given up on it. I have only heard good things about the STI Trojan and the 22 kit so am hoping that this is just bad luck and that a trip back to the dealer will get this resolved quickly, like maybe only needs a new pin?

And here I thought I couldn't get your slide racked back because I was wearing a hello kitty bandage.

Although there was quite a few failures to feed, it was quite obvious there was something binding the slide. Just could not fully pull it back after 2 or 3 shots of .22. Then had a heck of a time pulling off the .22 slide and could not get the 9mm slide on past the ejector. Luckily one of the range gunsmiths was there and when I showed it to him, he noticed that the ejector was coming up and rubbing against the bottom of the slide. You could see a small space between the ejector and frame that should not be there if the ejector was properly seated. The gunsmith tapped the ejector back down, but it worked loose and was binding against the slide again after another couple of shots. Probably the ejector is not pinned down properly. These guns are hand built, so it can happen. Still very happy with my STI's and I'm sure they will stand behind their product and make this right.
 
Is the ejector pin in place on the frame?this should be a pretty easy fix.Once youre sure that the ejector isnt going anywhere,put the slide (without barrel etc),onto the frame,view from behind and ensure that the slide isnt binding anywhere on the ejector

It's the ejector Item #6 on the diagram below. It looks like it's a press fit and then pinned in with item #7. The gunsmith gently tapped the ejector down to seat it against the frame, but it came back up after 2-3 shots of .22. So I'm thinking there's something wrong with the way it's been pinned in.

Back from the shop. They said the problem was that the ejector pin (item #7) had shifted upwards in the hole - into the position that is needed to remove the ejector assembly (item #6). After he pressed the ejector assembly back down, he repositioned the ejector pin to lock down the ejector so that should all be fine now. He just added some blue loctite to the ejector pin to keep it from shifting again..

Going back to the range this weekend to give it another go. Hope to run through a box of 9mm and then switch to the 22convrrsion and run through a box of 22s.

Well, looks like not quite fixed. After cycling the 9mm slide a few times, and then removing it to try the 22 caliber conversion kit this is what ditchman saw

Totally agree. Have used blue locktite on all the various fasteners I could on my motorcycles. Nothing like a lock nut vibrating loose on your shift linkage to make you really appreciate the stuff.

I think in this case though there's something wrong with the way the ejector is pinned in. Either the leg of the ejector that the ejector pin goes in to is broken, or the hole drilled in to the leg is too big. Could be the ejector pin is not being driven in deep enough to make proper contact with the ejector, but I would have thought the gunsmith at Reliable would have noticed that. Ah well, hoping that Trojan will be fixed up soon. If nothing else - because I recommended ditchman buy it instead of the Kimber.
 
ok, after a bit more research, found some people had problems with the 9mm mags hitting the bottom of the ejector and forcing the ejector up. Had ditchman check and found that the 22 conversion mag is making hard contact with the ejector. The aluminum of the magazine leading edge is damaged from being jammed against the bottom of the ejector.

Not sure if it's better to trim the bottom of the ejector or the top of the 22 conversion magazine. At least the 9mm magazine appears to fit ok. Ditchman will be bringing it back to Reliable to sort out. Would prefer that it's all sent back down to STI to properly fit the 22 conversion kit to the 9mm frame. We still had many FTF problems that may or may not have been caused by this ejector binding the slide.
