STI Trojan vs CZ Shadowline vs ?? in 9mm

Last time I was in cabelas nanaimo they had them in stock. That was awhile ago though. If your shooting in competition keep in mind your looking at several difference divisions.

Hmm...nothing showing online on cabela's website. Very nice pistol but above the price range of my origional options. Still on the list though...

Gotta say I'm surprised at the lack of votes for the 1911...be it STI or another brand.

Thanks,
Cal.

Well you did say you already had an STI correct..

True, but the one I have is a 6" longslide. I've got a 5" on my shortlist that is part of my debate. Perhaps that is a bit silly thinking about a 5" when I've got a 6" already...?

EDIT: I guess it wasn't really clear in my OP. I've edited my OP to be more clear.

Thanks,
Cal.

What do you think you are missing with the 6"? Are you looking to compete?
Just curious

Well that's why I dismissed getting another STI, not that it's not a fine pistol but having something different in the stable that shoots well would be what I would go for so the CZ was my logical choice.

Yeah I'm looking to dip my toes into competition. I'm not there yet skill-wise with a pistol, but wanting to get a platform to practice on that will "fit in the box". The 6" while a wonderfully accurate and fantastic shooter just won't fit in that damn box.

Thanks,
Cal.

Yeah I can get with that. I have that impossible combination of wanting a variety of pistols and at the same time sticking with what works. Leaves me in a state of paralysis endlessly debating between choices.

Cal.

I prefer the Shadow over the Shadowline because I like putting my thumb on top of the safety....especially when shooting one handed. The Shadowline has flat safety.

The Edge is also a good gun. Both guns you've chosen go in different divisions. Most people would get a Standard gun in .40 so they can score major. The Shadow is for Production and shoots 9mm. The CZ TS is a sweet shooting Standard gun as well.

The real question is...do you want to shoot 9mm or 40? Do you/are you planning to reload?

We have slightly more Standard shooters on the Island but Production is gaining in popularity. You can shoot a Production gun in Standard but not the other way around. It's more Indian than the arrow ;)

If you've never shot a Shadow, I'll be at the ISL match this Sunday. You can try out mine....

Hi Crystal,

Thanks for your message. Sounds like going for a Shadow over a TS will provide me with more divisions I could potentially compete in. I'm looking to stick to 9mm for economic reasons, and I do not have any immediate plans to reload. I know those two may seem contradictory, but there's only so much room for gear and only so much money to go round.

I will try to pop into the ISL this Sunday. I'm on the SG range Sunday morning for the trap practice.

Thanks,
Cal.

Some great choices guys....I do love my shadow..and agree, the trigger on mine was sublime right out of the box, I again couldn't see the difference in cost justification for the shadow line, but honestly, I've never shot one..however, I do have a yearning or a quality 1911......the search goes on...

I have considered the Rangemaster, but in that price range (+ $4-$500) I lean more towards the Sentry.

Thanks,
Cal.

I just picked up a Sentry from Wainstall's...very impressed with it for the price. Course, then my buddy show's up with an Ed Brown special ops.....sob....now THAT is a tight fit slide and frame. And the easiest 25 yard 1911 i've ever shot...but the Sentry nips along at it's heels for a little less then half the price.

I would also vote for the Tac Sport. I love mine and almost as accurate as my Sig X6 and STI Targetmaster. Had both the Shadow and Shadowline and they were fantastic guns and more suited to compete, but for straight range days, the 1250$ brand new out of the box Tac Sport is the best value out there right now. Fabulous stock trigger too.

Have a look at a STI Trojan very tight, nice and accurate with a good trigger right out of the box..

Interesting that I'm gathering from your post that you don't feel the Tac Sport is as suited to compete as the Shadow. I was under the impression that the reason CZ created the Tac Sport was for competition.

Does anyone know if the Tac Sport takes the same mags as the Shadow?

Thanks,
Cal.

The shadow is production division whereas the TS is standard division. So you can run a shadow in either division but can't run a TS in production division. The TS is too good to run in production ;) I believe the TS is SAO. Also it seems in standard division you would be better shooting a TS in .40 to score major.

I'm saving my pennies for a shadow. Wolverine supplies had them on sale awhile back for $800 with free shipping but that's gone now :(. Hopefully by the time I have the cash they'll be back on sale.

I believe I read somewhere that the mags are not directly compatible but that there is a work around to make sp01 mags fit the TS. Don't quote me on that though.

Just because it's not on the website doesn't mean that it's not in stock at a retail location. Call the store :)

Yes, the Tac Sport is more limited to what competitions it is eligible for, then the Shadow. No the mags are definitely not compatible.
And yes, it has a SAO trigger. Mine out of the box was 2.1 lbs with a very clean break.
Is it comparable to a 1911? No, but not worse or better, just different. I can tell you that everyone who has ever handled my CZs has said they feel wonderful to grip, the Shadow more so then the Tac Sport, but the TS is absolutely easier to be accurate with.
I do love my 1911s though too, and my new favs are the 2011 style STIs. If you're in Edmonton or close, head down to Phoenix, and handle a whole bunch of 1911/2011 STIs and see what you like better. They are a big STI dealer.
