STI......word of caution

If you are thinking of buying an STI make sure it works as it should. Our new edge, which cost a bundle has been with the gunsmith for the last month. Had to withdraw from black badge due to FTF. 40% failure is too much!!!! The glocks kept shooting all day. I thought if you spend a lot of money you get a better product...wrong on this one. Bought 5 extra STI mags and none of them feed properly.

Don't want to rain on anybodys parade, just a caution if you are thinking of buying one.

Did you contact STI? I've found them very good on the service side.
Yes I did on an issue of sights not being aligned. They said to return the slide and they will fix it, I don't have a problem with that offer. I have sent an e-mail regarding the mag issues and have not heard back yet. Apparently this is with the mags that do not have the rivet that limits it to 10.

As I mentioned this is just a little note that your sti might not work.

Are you running reloads or factory ammo? I just bought a Tactical SS in 9mm and found that I had some FTF with my reloads do to the chamber tightness. If my necks weren't crimped enough or I had not fully sized the odd piece of brass (short stroked) then the slide would not go into battery or would not eject. Runs factory ammo flawlessly. All my reloads run perfectly in my SAM and my M&P. The match chamber in the STI is just very friggin tight. I will have to tighten up my reloads a bit for better reliability.

I also switched to Tripp mags and that made a big difference from the Wilsons on the first round FTF. I had to stone down my ejector to get my 10 round mags to fit, but that was easy. Runs like a machine now. STI was very helpful when I called. I was very depressed when I first received my 2k pistol and my $400 dollar SAM was more reliable though. Just had to source the issue.

Hope you figure it out, you will love your STI once you do.

I had a lot of problems with two STI's myself, I also have a friend who runs an STI for competition, last match his would barely run, now he is using a Glock.

The 2011's are finicky sometimes....usually mag related. The single stacks rarely have any problems.

Had Mecgar's substituted for the STI (Metalform) 9mm mags by a reseller and they would not hold the slide back on last round, got the STI's now it works great.

Note: the replacement mags are now Black coated instead of the Stainless finish of the original mag. (A 2014 change I was told)

Hard to diagnose a problem without seeing it. First think I check is ammo, second thing is mags, third thing is extractor. STI Edge is a top notch gun and I'm sure that once the issue is sorted out, it'll run like a scalded cat for you.
FWIW: my STI guns don't jam....ever.

My first STI Trojan had some cosmetic issue due to the crappy dealer I got it from and his ultra poor handling and packaging. It shot super well, but is not longer mine. My current STI Trojan is just as accurate and rock solid. Tripp mags for the win.

Thanks,
Cal.

It is an issue caused by the new style mags. The old ones with the rivet are good, but you can't import them anymore. Getting the gun back in a couple days. Hoping everything runs ok. Spending 3k is no guarantee you will get what you paid for. Will keep you posted.

Good luck with it all - I was hoping to see you at the club match Sunday with the Edge. Frustrating as hell but hang in there. Once it works and you are punching Alphas it will all be a faded bad memory...
