Am I missing something here or is QC hit and miss?
One of the best models STI makes......and they are discontinuing it! Arrgh.....sure hope they have something up their sleeve for a replacement.

A friend of mine bought an STI Edge last month from a supporting dealer. First range session, 1st mag, after few shots, it will not reset. Hammer down after few rounds. We cycled it manually, still hammer down. After few manual cycling, it looked OK. Tried it again, without finishing a full mag, hammer down again. We were thinking of the ammo. It was a WOLF .40 Lead. Surprisingly, another shooter was using the same WOLF without any problem. Then he tried FMJ, same problem. He brought it back to the dealer and sent back to FV before Xmas. STI has a very good reputation specially with their high-end pistols. Is this an odd problem? We'll keep you guys posted.
OP, I hate to say this but you are probably correct - STI (or 2011s) are not for you =)
Also money does not equal a guarantee the product will fit your use case and just be excellent at it. For example, going by this analogy one can order an F1 racecar and then be annoyed that it won't run on pump gas etc. Get a corolla, it starts every single time (relative) and will be happy with any gas pump refill. I don't mean to be, well... mean but it just seems you were expecting to throw money at something without understanding what your getting into (based on your original post).
The Edge is a race gun, it will require proper break-in, ammo loaded within its chamber specs, tuned mags and proper maintenance to "run". With a Glock, you are absolutely correct that you spend way less and you won't be required to care for any of these issues, I would personally recommend shooting production division when you are starting out just for this reason.
Lastly this is for anyone considering IPSC, if you are going for BB, please use a gun that you have been using for a while and intend to use in the matches. Doing research (at actual matches - folks at these events for the most part are more than glad to help you out) will also greatly help you as there is ALOT of weird/misleading information floating around that will cost you money and bad days like the one OP seems to have had.

I had to install an EGW high mag catch to get mine to run reliably. Then the Tripp mags were slamming up on the ejector so I then had to install a .40 ejector.

No offense to anyone but that just doesn't sound like STI to me. Every second IPSC geek around here is running one and they just love them...
I've seen some pretty half-assed STIs. I wouldn't be that surprised.
I have two friends bought their Edge .40 at the same time and both are identical. Even though the series# are within 10 digits different. The interesting things is one run flawlessly with factory and reload rounds out of the box and the other was never finished one mag without any problems. They even switching the parts, mags and bullet to try out but the one runs flawless still run flawlessly. The other one is still doesn't run. The one that doesn't run was sent back to dealer for warranty and problems still come back occasionally afterward.
That is what got me interested.

you guys better watch out, STI owners are like Glock owners.... they dont like people smack talking their beloved STI's!
