Hi Everyone,
I have a M99 that once in a while a cartridge will stick in the chamber in such a way that I have to poke it out from the muzzle(sometimes with a lot of force). I shoot factory ammo only. The only conclusion that I can draw so far is the I seem to have the least problems with shiny ammo. Factory ammo that has been around for a few years tends to stick more. Why is this happening and what can be done to fix it. I would hate to have a follow-up shot not available because I can't get the case out.

The first guestion is have you cleaned the chamber well.Could be just deposits in the chamber. What caliber is it is the next guestion. Also do the shells after fireing look all cover in black.

How old is your Savage? Check your brass for deformities & dimpling (these could be fairly small you might have to look carefully), these are caused by pits in the chamber and also cause sticky extraction. If it doesn't clear up after a good cleaning as suggested above, then have a good look in the chamber just be sure.

Often, this condition is because of light rust in the chamber. Give the chamber a good cleaning, and then a polish with some 000 or 0000 steel wool on a brush. Never saw this fail to work, unless the chamber was actually damaged.

The rifle is 308. Shells never have any obvious deformities. No black. I think I will try a nice fine steel wool.
