Hi all - I did a search of the forums without much luck, although I am sure it has been asked in the past.
I broke down my 597 to give it a good cleaning and found, when it was all put back together, that the bolt does not slide well on the rails anymore. Not withstanding the fact that getting it all lined up and getting the springs in is hard enough as it is, I am pretty sure that everything went back in the exact way it was supposed to. Overall, what is happening is I #### back and let go, and the bolt slides about halfway forwards before grinding to a halt.
I can't say I am overly happy with the guts of the action on this rifle. Regardless, is there anything special you need to do in order to get a nice, smooth flowing, action? I just use oil on the parts before putting it back together.
I know the ultimate remedy is to go out and get myself another 10/22...but the 597 does feel like a nice rifle and I got it for my wife as a Xmas gift, so there is some sentiment attached to it.
Thanks for any advice!
