Just got back from the range this morning. One of the rifles I had with me was a new to me Savage Mark II.
Was working really well until I started to get some FTE issues. I did notice that this started happening after a few 10 mags of S&B .22 ammo. The ammo felt "sticky " to me as I was putting it into the magazine. Anyone else find this with ammo? I just bought it about a month ago.
I'm thinking it gummed up the chamber enough to not let the extractor pull the round out properly. I'm hoping the extractors not worn, they look good to me.

Note: I may have some of the terminology off, don't flame me I'm new to this!:p

I have similar issues with my used MK2, no sticky ammo. But it was due to carbon build up on the boltface/ejectors. I disassembled the bolt, cleaned the face extremely well, re-assembled and all was well. Until about 200 rounds later, started to happen again. So this time I used by pocket knife and scraped carbon off the boltface/ejector area and no more FTE. I scrape the bolt every 100-200 rounds now.

^^ bang on! pun intended! I don't scrape anything but I do clean my mk2 every time I go out, which is about 100-200 rounds later.

I have some S&B ammo but I haven't tried it nor looked at it. What you might be experiencing is the lubrication used on the bullet itself. Although not a match ammo, S&B SV may be lubricated the same way as match .22LR ammo, which is lubed with a wax of some kind.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. I really like the rifle but the FTE was starting to dampen my spirits! I'll give it a really good cleaning and scrape if need be tonight.
How do you remove the bolt on this rifle?

Never shot S&B .22, but if it's a naked bullet, it could just be their wax coating. Most naked bullets are coated to help save your barrel from fouling. This can sometimes cause issues for new guns that haven't quite been 'seasoned'. Haha

Yup they have wax on them but never found it sticky

I took the bolt out last night and gave everything a good cleaning. I took the "c" spring off and cleaned the extractors and bolt face.
I gave the spring a little squeeze and put it all back together. I'll see how it works out now that everything is really clean.
I'll get a new spring if the issue persists.
Not sure that I could fit 2 springs on and still have the bolt fit back in.

You will need to Dremel or file the notches on the 2nd spring just a little as it has to be on the outer circumfrence of the first spring and still latch on the the extractors. It will fit in the receiver though.

Update

Just a quick update to this thread. I gave the extractor spring a good squeeze and reassembled everything.
I took the rifle out to the range today and put about 80 rounds through it without one FTE. Seems fixed. We'll see if it is still good after the next outing. :)

awesome, yeah I really like mine I just need to get a scope for it once again. Will grab one when my income tax comes back! I was getting like 3/5 1/2" groups at 50m with aguila HV and my TT525p on top with sandbags, fv-sr 16" barrel. With SK std plus I got a 1/2" group at 100m. It was pretty awesome, but the cases ftf every time I had to use a knife to extract the round.
