Stiff WW2 British Webbing

Hello everyone,

Any tips on very stiff WW2 British Webbing?

Normally, the webbing gear I recieved are covered in oil. I usually carefully handwash them with Simple Green, and the results are great.

This time, I bought a Bren Spare Barrel carrier, dated 1944. It appears to be unissued, therefore, nothing to clean.

However, I noticed this time that the webbing is very very stiff. Any tips on how I can "soften" the cotten webbing?

You could put it through a wash and dry cycle, no detergent. Should soften it up a bit.

A little fabric softener wouldn't hurt. Helps preserve any stamps as well. Cold or warm water, hang to dry. Tumble air dry to beat it up a bit at the end.

Based on your info, I would not do anything to it and leave it as it is. Why risk fading the webbing?
