If I buy a full Gen3 G17 lower from an online store which I can apply my crappy TecSol 22lr upper on it (or buy an AA 22lr upper which suppose to work alot better). So when I buy it it will get registered for just the lower right? Then when I apply an upper to it I will have to contact CFC (or local CFO?) to have to re-register as a new pistol? Is that the correct procedure? Anyone done this can tell me what's the proper procedure I need to do?

Thanks so much ;)

Your initial purchase will be registered as just the frame.

Then, if you change that afterwards, I think you have 30 days to report the modification

...the frame is the gun. By model will determine the caliber for the paper work. (G17 lower=9mm)

As the gun is somewhat modular, the upper that's on it is irrelevant. As example, I bought a gen 3 G22 from IRG's recently that came with the .22LR AA kit installed.

The registration I believe says .22LR, but a G22 is clearly a .40 caliber gun. It doesn't matter. The lower is registered, you're GTG.

Just leave the slide off when storing or transporting.

When you get to the range put the slide on and shoot, when leaving remove the slide and you don't have to wait for a new registration in the mail.
