 I have a Beretta 92F that I have purchased from the EE and is my first pistol. So now I want to start doing the tactical shoots at our club but my 92F does not have a rail (there are was around that). I was thinking of purchasing another pistol with rail for the shoots but do I even need to? If I do purchase another, should I stick to 9mm ammo? It would be easier to purchase all the same ammo for both. But now that I have a 9mm, do I want a .40? So to make it short and sweet:

-Buy another pistol?
-If yes, another 9mm or a .40?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

another gun just fro the rail? you already have a Beretta which is a great gun! use it for now :)

what's tactical shooting anyways? what do you really need a rail for? light? :S Just shoot during the day and you'll be fine ;) or get a flashlght and use the cool way to hold it like they do in the movies with arms crossed at the wrist :p but than again I've never been a fan of rails...

and yes if I were you I'd stick to 9mm and get something bigger (45 or 10mm) later

NAA.

If you're just starting, stick with the gun you have and learn to shoot it well. Then think about other guns. It's probably not a good idea just to buy one for something like a rail, which has pretty limited usefulness in our world. And there's really a lot to be said for staying with one caliber for a while. Learn that before moving on.

If you are shooting factory ammo stick with 9mm, if you reload go 45acp or 10mm, but anytime is a good time for a new handgun.:D

I'd be curious what the game requirements are for the tactical shoot and why they would mandate a rail, if at all. That's the first I've heard of that; nothing wrong with the requirement just seems strange.

I got a tacti-old light I got with a Sig 226 that I picked up a couple years ago that you are welcome to for free if you really need and want it, you pay shipping. It fits underneath the dust cover and friction bolts onto the front trigger guard. The caveat is that you will definitely have to shim the thing before use as the 226 has a nice 1/8" screw divot in the triggerguard from the guy who first installed it and tightened it down. Am pretty sure the alloy frame of your Beretta would have the same fate if you didn't take precautions.

Note though as soon as you throw anything on that rail or that light up front, you have to ask yourself how are you going to holster it, if that is necessary. I can't see it being kosher forgoing a holster to just to have a light on the front. I'd have to agree with IM Lugger that crossed wrists and a flashlight might be the cheapest, easiest route for you in the end.

If you are set on getting a new pistol, I echo what everyone else said about if you are shooting factory: stick with the 9mm unless your tastes or your match requirements require something else. It'll be cheaper than .40 or .45, you can run one ammo in both pistols, and is lower recoiling which is better if 9mm works in this tactical game.
