Hey guys still undecided on a 30-06 rifle i went out to a couple of places, and a browning x bolt caught my eye, later an A bolt was introduced to the picture then the decision became more difficult. Just wondering how that gun would compare to a savage either a package deal or one around the same price. I felt more comfortable with the x bolt over the A bolt.

I prefer the original A-bolt myself based on my experience, but the Savage will give you more bang for your buck (unless you're a sucker for shiny wood - I'm guilty as charged). I'd stay away from a package gun, you can get an Accutrigger/Accustock model with cash left over and it'll shoot great, use funds saved to top it with some nice glass.

i have an a bolt and i really like it, however, you kind of answered your own question. you said you felf more comfortable with the x bolt over the a bolt. can't go wrong with either.
as for the savage, can't go wrong with it either. go handle one and see how you like it compared to the x bolt

If the X bolt felt right, then that might be the rifle for you. Browning bolt guns are almost always good shooters.

Savage has come a long way in the last decade or so, and they now make rifles that can be embraced by the enthusiast as well as the bargain hunter. Don't select your rifle by price alone. Choose the rifle that feels good to you and lies within your budget, but more importantly, choose the rifle that catches your imagination. There's little point in choosing a bolt gun if your heart longs for a traditional lever action, don't by a Savage if your heart screams out for a Weatherby, don't buy a Remington if you must have a controlled round feed bolt action.

Go and handle an TC Icon Precision Hunter, i own a 308 and just order one in 243... Those rifle are the best kept secret, its like having a custom built rifle for 900.00, they shoot sub moa ( read .4 ) with cheap factory ammo right out of the box... JP.
