I'm looking to get a 10/22 and not modify it: not spend cash on it except BC mags and lots of ammo.
What is the accuracy you an expect from the basic 10/22.
Arre the target models with bull barrel worth the extra money ?
Thanks guys

I only see the point of Target models and bull barrels for a 10/22 if your actually doing target shooting...like competition level or somethign equivalent. Even then the T models cant utilize the high power .22lr like stingers/velcitors etc, a downfall if you want to hunt small game with it.

Otherwise a 10/22 is the fun, rapid fire mini-blaster...which i think it should be. And i find its accurate enough, considering the low recoil ill just put 25 rounds on target and im sure to hit..many times ;)

No, the T....Target models of the 10/22 wont load the higher velocity elongated cases of certain rounds, such as the CCI stinger/velociter without the possibility of damage to the chamber.

The stock accuracy of a 10/22 is the reason I don't own one.
I shot my buddy's stock 10/22, scoped at 25 yards.
With many different types of ammo, including good target ammo, I never got below an one inch group.
I would expect any decent gun to do a ragged hole at 25 yards.
I've got $25 guns with open sights that would do better.

I agree with Slash5, 10/22's are not known for their out of the box accuracy. However, part of the joy of owning one, for me anyways, is modifying it. I can say mine will do ragged little holes, but not before spending another couple of hundred bucks.

I've got a stainless 10/22 T that is box stock, topped with a Bushnell 3200 3X9-40mm. One of the games my boys and I play at the range with this gun is tic-tac-toe. What I do is hotglue two colours of .68calibre paintballs in a grid pattern on a piece of cardboard. It's then set-up at 100yards and the fun begins. Not long after and all the balls are busted.

I have a stock 10/22 carbine with the barrel band and I get about 1.5 - 2.5 " 5 shot groups at 50 yards with most types of ammo. Not great accuracy, but good enough for the gophers it usually gets used on.

I sold my 10-22 because I don't like mediocre accuracy, I also found 10 shots in to 2" at 50 yards was all I could do. For me, the fun of just blasting off ammo wore off pretty fast. Regarding add-ons, its easy to double the original price (or more!) so why not spend the money on a good shooter in the first place? In my opinion, the biggest impediment to good accuracy is the trigger, not the barrel or stock.

how much is the T out of the box?

I bought it new prolly around 6-7 years ago for $475 plus tax. For the longest time I ran the gun with a Bushnell Holosight with satisfying accuracy. It wasn't till late last year that I put the scope on her only to find out what a tack driver it is :dancingbanana: .

Hello:

I don't believe that CCI Velocitors cause any problems with a 10/22 Target model; the owner's manual only states that CCI Stingers should not be used due to the longer case length and the tighter Bentz chamber. I have used Velocitors in my 10/22T without any problems.

Chizzy

I've been using CCI velocitors with my K10/22T. No problems. The solid 40 grains shoot very nicely.

I believe velositors have the standard lenght cartridge - shouldn't be a problem with match chambers or feeding/ejecting.

Now regarding 2" at 50m groupings accuracy - I found it a bit too big groups to hunt small game. And hunting is the thing I do and buy 22 for. Small game is different from anything else, especially if we are talking squirrel size anymal, you have to be withing 3/4" accurate or do not take a shot. I found it nerve recking seing anymal dying from gut shots or severed limb.

Another big thing for hunting is your trajectory. Scope must be low mounted and bullet must be fast (hyper speed preferable) or you will be guessing your impact point or carrying ballistic charts with you in a bush (I ended up doing that). Plus guessing the distance all the time.

One cannot say "its not very accurate gun but OK for hunting", that is simply not true. Not for me anyway.

You are right, velocitor case are standard lenght. Thats all I use in my custom 10/22. I pop a dime at 50 yard 9 times out off 10 and when I miss its my fault:redface:
