Stock A2 Grip...Anyone Still Use Them?

I remember that at one time, it seemed that every AR rifle or carbine was sporting the regular A2 grip. Since then, we've got a lot more choices for the grip: Ergo, Magpul, Stark etc. etc.

So, does anyone here still use the regular A2 grip on their ARs?

Although I'm sure that it does serve its purpose, I do have to agree with you that it can be quite bothersome. I also opt for a grip without it...Magpul, BCM...

My Model 653 carbine build has a standard A2 grip. Works fine, it's plastic and is in the shape of a pistol grip and I can hold it to pull the trigger.
However I do prefer the original A1 model without the finger seperater protrusion on my M16A1 clone.

I think they're fine personally. What else do you need?

Plus half the time you can get A2's for FREE because nobody can sell them, nor do people want them.

I use them. It just isn't worth it to me to change it out for such a small difference in "feel".

Besides, one thing I personally like about shooting service rifles (from whatever country), is that you adapt yourself to the rifle, rather than making changes to the rifle to suit you.

The A2 grip was designed for when shooters were taught to shoot with a bladed stance and high elbow (chicken wing).

Shooters now shoot with armor, and using "conservation of motion" mechanics. Square up, elbows in, on target, quick shots, search-and-assess.

Avoid getting shot in the arm or taking rounds in between areas without armor such as the sides and armpits.

Reducing the grip angle allows shooting with a straighter wrist - better trigger control, recoil control and strong grip.

If I have something else on hand I'll dump the A2. The finger bump sucks.

If I don't have something else handy, I'll just shoot it as is.

If I'm swapping it out it's going to be BCM or MOE.

I don't have an AR, but I used to have an AR stock adapter for my Mossberg 500 that came with an A2 grip. I kind of liked it to be honest.

I have three A2 grips in my 'spare parts bin'. I like Magpul, Hogue AR grips - much better. A2 is thin and poorly conceived. There's a reason why they're taken off almost immediately.

I don't mind the A2, I just don't like the raised bump. Not everyone has the same size of hand and finger.

I love rubberized grips. I don't think the a2 is terrible with the bump sanded off.

Au contraire; buy a piece of sandpaper for 3$ and kill the finger protrusion. Then use your 10$ soldering gun to stipple the grip. Then, buy Smarties with the change.

I've been known to take a dremel and sandpaper to that A2 bump.

I like the rubbery goodness of Hogue, although I also like the large size of the Tapco style SAW grip for my oversized mitts.

The angle and fatness of the plain jane moe has been the best I've tried... YMMV.
ERGO was too thin.
Hogue has the same angle as A2 which I don't like.
NEA rubber A1 type was meh.
Plus it's $20....lol

I still like the original A1 and A2 grip.
You guys should have seen the garbage aftermarket grips that were on the market in the 80's. Comparatively made an A2 grip feel like a brand new Cadillac.
