stock choices for a Stevens 200

So I've picked up a Stevens 200 today and the stock is butt ugly. I know it won't effect the guns performance but this is gonna be my only bolt gun, besides the never used enfield in my safe and I plan on making it look and work great. I am looking for a good stock to use at the range and for hunting and I don't want it super expensive, anything black or green will do. I am also planning to have a bi-pod mounted to it as well as a sling. I've thought of spray painting it but I am not sure how good it will look and how long it will last before it chips away.
 
Is it a Center feed mag or stagger feed mag. Long action or short action?

Sadly the center feed mag really, really limits your choices. I hope to find more stock options in center feed, long action as it really is sparse right now.

Anyways, as far as the painting option goes, I painted many savage stocks, and stevens 200 stocks this method and it holds up really well.

All can be bought at Canuck Tire very inexpensively.
A couple coats of Krylon Armourcoat primer
Krylon Camoflauge (Olive, tan, brown, black) spray paint
Krylon Clear coat sealer

I have done a few and they look great and hold up very well. I wouldn't do the metal like that but a cheap stock, for sure. I've done paintball guns and airsoft rifles too and they see a lot of action and hold up ok considering.

If you decide to paint make sure you give your stock a slight sanding on the ruff edges on the checking and seam.

I think a wooden stock from an older Savage 110 might fit. It's my understanding that the Stevens are the same action, but come wearing the tupperware. There was a used stock on the EE from a 110, kind of beat up though.

If you were handy with wood/finishing, it might work. Like I say, this is to the best of my knowledge, not the gospel. If you went that route, make sure you confirm the above is true.

Chances are the Stevens is a centerfeed mag and the action holes and magazine don't fit in the old style holes. Not many stock options yet for those.

In laminate Boyds now has them and SharpShootersSupply. But the stock would be worth as much as the whole rifle. Not that I think they are not worth it, but most likely OP doesn't want to spend $400 on a stock. Boyds stocks are cheaper, usually around $200ish.

B&C stocks are usually good options for short action Savages on a budget, but again no Centerfeed options.
 
My 200 is a .308win and its stagger feed. I am like the idea of painting it, as long as I do a good job I think it will look sharp. And MagnumPeanut good job on your custom stock, I like it.
 
I have another a .303 enfield but it just sits in its case. I plan to get a stevens in .223 later on but when your paying $9,000.00 a year for school outta your own pocket money gets tight lol.
 
The stevens is all right. I had one in 22-250 once and found the trigger to be a large reflection of its cost. cheep. some times man it pays a bit to save up for something a little nicer like a savage 12fv witch is still cheep ..... but can shoot under 1moa at over 600m and is equipped with the nice accutrigger.

Regardless tho as long as ur shooting life is good.
