stock compatibility - Savage Short Actions

Could a stock from a Savage Model 12 BVSS be installed on a Stevens 200 Short Action Rifle (.223) without major modifications ? The only difference that I know of is that the model 12 has a heavy a barrel and the Stevens does not.

it should, just check if its center feed or staggered feed, screw spacing will differ.

Best is to measure screw spacing before you buy.

Screw spacing is the same, not sure if the action will drop in. I cant imagine Savage reinvented the wheel for short actions ?

Careful with that screw spacing thing. I just picked up a Savage stock from a gunshow, only to find that the screw spacing is somewhere in between that of the Savage short- and long-actions that I have. They must have changed the length of one of those somewhere along the way.

Well he said the spacing is the same, hopefully he measured it before saying that.

5.062" long action
4.522" intermediate length action, sometimes called "J" series but that isn't accurate
4.400" new centerfeed short action
4.275" short action staggered feed
