I was just wondering what your experience has been with a new out of the box Norinco CQA for accuracy, ? Was disappointed the other day when I finally got out to play with mine, 3.5 " groups at a hundred yards. Am I expecting to much out of this thing or are some really finicky with the type of ammo used ?

My first hand load was 1 MOA can't complain about that! switched to cheaper bullets and got about 1.5 MOA. Had some really bad bullets and no mater what load I used it would get 3-5 MOA. All with a 3.5x scope

That is shooting with optics on it. I have a m305 norico that will shoot 1.5 at a hundred with surplus ammo and another 223 semi auto that will shoot the same handloads better than that with open sights. Guess I was just expecting more out of it. I suppose I should start looking into acurizing it. Any suggestions on what to start with?

If you want to stick with iron sights I would suggest a thinner front post. The one that came with mine was Hugh covered the hole target and then some. I turned mine done to about .040. That's all I did to my iron sights and it made a big difference.

Bulk (read : cheap) ammo simply won't shoot well out of most barrels (there is the odd exception). IIRC a normal expectation for AR accuracy with bulk or military spec ammo is somewhere in the 3 MOA range at 100 yds (or meters).

Given the typically crappy trigger out of Norc's (I replaced mine with an ALG Defense trigger - what a difference!) and sights, there's nothing wrong with 3 MOA shooting cheaper ammo.

If you try some match ammo, you may see a large improvement. In the ammo world, 99x out of a hundred you get what you pay for.....
