Stock disc? Mystery Solved

Why would anyone put this on a lee enfield stock? It is on an old Lee Speed barreled action, in place o the stock disc. I searched trademarks/logos for hours and found nothing, then I asked my wife to have a look. She found it in 30 seconds, turns out it is a medallion from a Disston & Sons handsaw from 40's-50's

Hi Gerard. Long Lees did not have a butt stock disc. All service unit marks were stamped on the brass butt plate tang.
Maybe your special seal represents the royal order of Gerard? John

You need to get your head around the fact that at one time those rifles were cheap, especially as more modern models became available.

Jtaylor is correct, I don't believe Lee Speed rifles were sold to the military, other than to officers through the Army Navy Collective Society?

Lee Speed rifles were purchased from I believe BSA as military style Lee Metfords and configured to sporting dimensions, either by special request or in a line up of offerings.

I had one several years ago, chambered for the 8x57J with .318 bore. Finding bullets or ammo was always difficult or extremely expensive at the time, so I sold it to a collector.

The folks that got those rifles weren't enamored by its military appearance and did what they could, at low cost to "dress up" the rifle.

Whoever did that one, appears to have turned down a "bone" button, and epoxied another small button into the center.

I've seen much worse and if it really bothers you, it's a very easy fix.

Just wanted to see if there could be any reason for it before I took it out. The stock has a split, has been sanded and is on a rusty barreled action with no bolt. May repurpose the stock and wanted to make sure the disc didn't mean anything historical. The barreled action has a different barrel profile in front of the knox form, maybe a LSA? haven't found any marks yet, just Lee Speed Pat.
