I am refinishing my winchester 37A shotgun stocks, and was going to use minwax tung oil finish or antique oil finish. Are these "reliable" and long lasting, or is there anything else that I could aquire just as easy. Also, what kind of oil gives the very matte "look", almost as if there is nothing on the wood at all (just feels silky smooth)?

Thanks

tung oil looks great when properly applied not to shiny nice and deep. trick is to put coat on thin and wet sand 320/400 very lightly making a hazy cloudy look then leave it for like a week then repeat after about 4 to five coats I go to 600 and it's like glass but not shiny. just like old furniture. beautiful thing is you can do as many coats as you want just remember to let it dry totally don't rush or the oil will build up and it could take forever to dry and that sucks. I think that it 's a really classic looking finish and super easy to do
