Now that I am pistol-less, having just sold my P226, I have to decide which Glock 9mm to get - G17 or G19 w/extended barrel.
Money aside, and the argument that one should buy ammo and practice, what would you choose and why.
Range use, tac. matches, etc. No killing bad guys, no CCW :(

Help me choose a KevinB inspired setup.

Thanks
Ahab.

I would get the 17, the grip is a little longer, and personally I cannot stand a barrel extending out of the slide, now taking into account the cost, think of the extra's you can buy for the extra cost of that BarSto barrel. Ammo, holset, mag pouch, gun bag, case!

Glock

Both are excellent choices, I've had both, and kept the G17 for the same uses as you want, ranges and matches. They are both accurate wth a slight edge for the 17, but for me the main reason was that the 17 felt better in my hand. I'm not sure how the accuracy would be when you have a bar-sto barrel on the 19, I suspect it would be at least as good as the 17, if not better. The 17 is half an inch longer and half an inch taller (which gives my pinky finger more room) and 1 ounce heavier, which in terms of concealment is negiligible and not an issue in this case. From a personal point of view, in terms of aesthetics, I prefer when the barrel is not protruding.

All valid points...
However, I had a G17 and a G34...just had to have the G19.....
Kept the 34 and the 19...
I have average sized hands, and found that the 19 just fits and feels better...
I was at the range today, shooting a variety of units...
H&K Mark23, a new S&W M&P in 40S&W, my H&K P7M13 and the G19...
I ended up shooting the G19 the best in terms of comfort and accuracy....
I also let a bunch of rookies try all of the units and apart from the two brothers that had hands that could pass for hams, they all prefered the G19.
I think the Barsto barrel, while not to everyone's taste visually, seems to pay dividends over the stock G17 in terms of accuracy.
I would be happy to use the G19 in IDPA or IPSC matches and, again, is one of my favourite units for just plinking at the range...
Using the cheapo Winchester white box 115 gr. fodder, it was entertaining
hitting the 100yrd. steel plate more often than not.
Just my $0.02 worth.....

You'd have a better sight radius with the 17 and theoretically better practical accuracy...given your choice I'd probably would (and did) go for the 17 as a general purpose pistol. Ideally, though, you'd have a chance to try both and see which shoots best for you--I've seen more than one person mention, as Foxbat has, that they shoot a 19 better than a 17.

The G19 with the 106mm barrel looks okay. It only extends a few millimetres.

Everyone has G17s. Be different. Get the G19 w/ Barsto :D . I've owned a G17, G19 and a G23. The compact guns all shot better for me. I've also handled a G26, with the extended barrel, and it still feels like a tiny gun. Very cool.

Can the Barsto barrels be blued? If so, with the minimal extension beyond the slide one would hardly be able to tell it wasn't a stock G19.

I appreciate all of your comments guys. From everything I have heard out of the US, the G19 seems to be the Glock 9mm favorite.
Does anyone have pictures of a G19 with the 106mm barrel?
A straight on, ejection side shot. The ones on Questar are all at strange angles so it is hard to get an idea of the barrel stub sticking out.
Mags I don't think are a big deal, and from what I understand, there are several parts that are interchangeable bewteen the G17 and G19. Enough for a SHTF scenario anyways.

I'd stick with a stock 17 rather than go with a 19 with an aftermarket barrel. The 19 makes sense for ccw, but if that is not an issue just stick with something that works.

I bought a g19 with the 106mm bar-sto from Questar and it's awesome. over 1500 rounds through it with zero malfunctions and is as accurate as my stock g22. maybe even more accurate, but it's always me behind the trigger so it's hard to predict on any given day.

I have owned several Glocks of various sizes and models, and the only one I still have is my 2nd gen. G19. It is hands down the most comfortable to shoot for me. Mine a 12(6) prohib. but must handle the same as the ones with extended barrels.

Someone was going to try the CQB muzzle thingee' from brownells on an extended barrel G19 - who was that again, and did it happen?

Hey...
I own a 19, and a 17 and it all boils down to which you feel most comfortable shooting.

I shoot the 19 in IDPA and the 17 in IPSC.

The key is to what type of shooting you plan/intend/not-intend to do.
