Stock Identified (??) try number 2 since 3 out of 3 who looked couldn't access link.

It has been suggested that the stock is from a US M1917 30 cal military rifle. I guess my question now is, if it is true, should I chop up the wood or leave it intact in case somone is looking to de-sporterize a version of this weapon. Any comments?

Original Query

Acquired this stock intending to use the top third for missing wood on my Snider Enfield. After reading a number of threads on here, I am wondering if it would be better to preserve it in its current condition so that it could be used in someone's restoration project.
I'm not sure if it is even Milsurp but it has a butt plate similar to the Lee Enfield.
Can anyone help with its identification? Should I just chop it up to use for the Snider?

Hopefully I have finally solved the problem with the link

Its either for a US 1917 or a British Pattern '14, I can't tell which but someone will be able to. I'd hold onto it as-is, they aren't the easiest to come by and seem to command a decent buck in respectable shape.
