Stock Norinco M14?

My dad refinished it for me like 3 years ago, and he was going to show me how to do it but it was during exam week, and he was finished with it before I was done. I think he just sanded it and used tung oil, but I'm not sure. Doesn't even look like chu wood does it? :D

Upgrades, Well I bought a BM59 rear sight, Don't know why, this rifle has a good rear sight worked as it should. My bad. I have a rod guide coming as well as a NM suppressor / front sight. all I need to do is sight it in.

Overall I'm happy, nice to have another in my hands since my TRW M-14 was traded for my C1A1.

I concur with Plattz's experience from TradeX, mine was likewise. Just oiled easy to clean and overall good fit. The unissued M-6 bayonet I bought fits perfect. Will get the B59 rear sight I think though these work both ways.:cool:

Yesterday I mounted a 4x scope on mine. The only work on it was to put a shim on it (Hungry's Clinic) and mount the NC Star scope mount (see other post).

I shot just under a MOA at 100 yards. Which is really good for ANY mid-priced rifle. I will be taking mine out to the range again, to see how it shoots with better glass on it. And YES....I will post a pic of the targets.

As a follow up. Received my Springfield NM flash suppressor c/w bayonet lug. WOW! I need hearing protection, the ping is LOUD! Thanks you Spcamno.

The stock suppressor was good and solid, but the casting was not a smooth making the making seem off and looked odd. That was not the motivating factor to replace the suppressor, it was the grooves were not 100% evenly ground and the same dia. x length. The part looked rushed. Other than that all of the other parts are perfect.

Okay, jokes aside :nest: I'm uncomfortable (old school, I guess) looking at a Kaliphornia neutered flash suppressor. I must have the bayonet lug to be a man :eek: That way the rifle is more fun to look and and fondle while watching "Full Metal Jacket" starring R Lee Ermey and Vince D'Onnofrio (SVU)

That paint job is done with epoxy pigmenting (Autobody pigments ) of the fiberglass resin. I bought the colour tubes from Noah's Ark Marine Supply in Toronto (something like that) and then mixed up the colours into the resin. Slapped on the pigments with dollar store paintbrushes and then upon curing, I sanded down with 400 wet/dry and a block of wood.

Now the paintjob will stand up to rough use and other solvents like : acetone, bore cleaner, brake cleaner, insect repellent, paint thinners, hydraulic fluid-when I'm boarding a ship yuk yuk yuk) :) Nah, I'm just a mirror kommando switching from primary to secondary like RTT-CQB on Youtube!

Okay, back to the discussion on the stock Norc M14 which are great boomsticks for the price! :evil:

My first Norc in the 90s was an essay in plainness. CGN wasn't around then, with its plethora of parts on the EE, and I never made a single mod to it. In fact, the smell of chu wood is synonymous with M-14 for me. I would go to the range, or dry fire it for hours, and the aroma of the wood stayed on for a long time after. It shot well, producing very good groups with both milsurp and hunting ammo. The only thing I didn't like about it was that I had to bring the rear sight way, way up for my zero.

But I have NEVER done that with my M14......ever....never... maybe once :onCrack:
 
Well I got around to seeing if the gas system shut off value would turn. Well it would not, seems there was to much spring in the gas cylinder. 2 coils off tight but still moves.

Anyone else have this issue?

I shot my Norinco for a few years bone stock ... got rid of the chu wood to start and put on a USGI camo stock ... changed spring, spring guide, barrel, stock ... you get the picture! Shoot it stock for awhile and save up for $$$ and keep reading ... eventually after several mods, you might find exactly what you want to do with it. ;) I ended up with a shorty project which is still not finished ... but soon will be! :D Have fun!

Does watching Full Metal Jacket "Rifle Range clip on YouTube", with my, new from the wrapper, Apr '62 M-6 bayonet mounted, count as a fondling?w:h:
 
doing my stock now as well.... i went with the easy off strip twice then a good bath, sanding with 220 then a turquoise stain its just got its first coat of diamond coat on 5 min ago. cant wait to put on 2nd coat then a quick sand and 2 more coats sand buff voila.....then off to the range to re sight in..., WITH GREAT THANKS TO HUNGRY for stopping on his way to the ottawa seminar to show a jarhead like me that indexing a norc barrel will not make your #### fall off.w:h:
