I’m thinking about purchasing a Remington 700 in 300 WSM and was wondering if a HS stock in short action will fit in the WSM.
I know they are both Short actions but would hate to purchase one and it not dropping in.

Perhaps you would be further ahead to get that assurance from the stock maker or the stock seller?? I have replaced a number of stocks - is considerable variation in barrel profile for the same chambering - is one part about does action drop-in fit to the stock inletting - then what barrel profile are you using and does it drop-in fit into barrel channel? And perhaps on some, is the issue of what bottom metal are you choosing to use, and does it drop-in fit? Or the particular trigger assembly that you chose to use. Or the shape of the bolt handle. Most all that I have played with were wood or laminate stocks - I do not think any did not require some scraping or filing for clearance here or there, and / or some epoxy bedding to snug up the fit in other places.

If the HS stock is inlet for a Rem short action then yes it will fit your receiver but the barrel channel may be for a light hunter weight, magnum, or heavy barrel. What model HS stock are you looking at buying?

Snide remarks aside, Im sure it will fit. Your issue might just be whatever DBM or bottom metal you use. In either case that's easy enough to fix with an imagination and some common shop implements. Everything else will be fine as long as you don't plan to use heavies in a SA gat.
