Hello everyone. I've recently purchased a Tikka T3X stainless varmint in .243. I'm not a hand loader yet . I would like to swap out the factory stock for something else. I think I'd like to stay with a more traditional style stock and not a chassis for now. Something in a Varmint/target/tactical style.

I'm not a great rifle shooter but I would like to get better. I plan on using the rifle to target shoot and to hunt coyotes with so I don't want it to end up being too heavy but some weight is not a problem within reason. The rifle is a great shooter and I've stretched it out to 400 yards so far.

I can get a Bell & Carlson target stock within a reasonable drive from home but would the expense of something else like a MacMillin A-5 , Manners or something else be worth it? I'm guessing they would be double the cost by the time I got them. This is a new world to me as a shotgun guy.

Thank you for any advice you guys could provide.

The factory stock is not going to win any beauty pageant prizes, but for what you are hoping to do, I'll say it will do the job. Be prepared to duct tape some closed cell foam pads to the cheekrest so your eyeball is naturally aligned with the scope, then bang away. The money you spend on a new stock could be better spent on practice ammo.

I have a Peak44 Blacktooth on a Tikka. I like it quite a bit. For a heavier target/precision type build they offer the vertical grip Bastion.

Peak44 is selling/shipping directly to Canadians now. You just have to setup with their exporter, Easy Export. Pretty smooth process.

B&C's, Boyd's - good stocks, just heavy.

To get light generally reuqiree carbon fibre, and layups - a laborious process.

There are tonnes of options out there for Tikka today!

Wildcat Composites are great, but they only have one model for Tikka, and the ergos are pretty standard.

A Manners LRH-TK is light, and has all the features and ergos but will run you more than the cost of the complete rifle.

Felso BH-1 is a great value, but it is not 'drop in' like the Manners, and some gunsmith inletting/bedding is required.

In your position, I'd go for something like a Boyd's Varmint - and find your preferences from there.

Like Dan said, no sense going for a Gucci stock until a guy knows exactly what he's after.

Those Raven Euros look pretty nice though 🤓

Good luck in your quest, Goose Smasher

Thank you very much Hand Skills! That's some great info and I'll look into.

When choosing a new stock also look if or how the bedding/recoil lug fit is solved.
We even epoxy bedded a friends high end alu chassis for a Tikka action to prep it for PRS comps. Some stocks can be bought with the bedding issue sorted at manufacturing stage. Also lightweight stocks can shoot very accurate.
