I picked up a Sako rifle a few years back and it has a blue/ grey paint on the synthetic stock, apparently the former owner had it proffessionally done. After using the rifle for a couple of years the paint is coming off at any contact areas. What is a safe method to remove this paint and put the rifle back to its original condition without wrecking anything? The rifle is a Sako TRG-S, if that helps.

Never tried this but read it some time ago. Try oven cleaner on a small part to see if it will remove the paint. If no issues, remove the rest. Worth a try!
Elky....

I'd be very careful using any stripper on a synthetic stock as you could end up with a puddle of plastic so as suggested above try some on a very small piece of the stock to see what happens. You may have to remove the paint mechanically or simply rough it up and repaint.

I don't think you'll be able to remove the paint from plastic with oven cleaner.
You'll need to find a stripper that removes paint without affecting plastic surfaces, which will be difficult.

The trg stock isnt a tupperware. I believe they were mostly if not all made by mcmillan. As such they will need to be painted. If you want yours refinished, carefully sand off the old paint, and repaint.

I was able to get the spray paint off of the stock and reveal the original finish. I used G96 Crud Buster on a rag, wiped the paint right off the stock. It come with an original dura-coat finish over the polyurethane stock and the Crud Buster never harmed it at all.
