Hi,
I might get a high end stock for a 700P (I know the HS is a decent stock)and I can't decide if I Should go with a AICS or a MacMillan A5. I really like the pistolgrip on the A5 and usually I'm not a big fan of tumbhole stock.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Well, with your signature ringing clear in my mind and the nature of this forum....

What does this have to do with making the gun any more accurate? spending $1200 on an AICS stock that will have ZERO influence on its accuracy. I'd put my money on making it a true precision rifle, but that's me. I don't care what they look like.

As you mention, the HS is a decent stock.
And as Obtunded pointed out, spending big bucks on another stock isn't going to make the rifle any more accurate.
If you do want to restock, I would suggest that you should really consider handling - or shooting - a rifle with the stock you want to buy. It would be a shame to buy the stock and then find out it doesn't suit you.
You might also look at Ian Robertson's offerings.

either one is a great stock, but a good bedding job will be more of a factor in rifle accuracy then the actual stock itself.

Best just handle both and figure out which one you can spend hour after hour after hour without getting fatigued.

You are looking at 1k for a McMilly, which are a great stock. You could sell the HS for $300 or so on the EE.

I would personally put that money into a barrel and bed/pillar job for the HS and then do the stock later. Money better spent.

For me.. because I'm a gorilla.. I like to have the adjustment ability in a stock. All about comfort...

Whichever fits you the best!

All the brands mentioned are great quality stocks that will work well. However, not every stock fits every physique.

The stock is the main interface between you and the metal parts. Make sure it fits you well not only for recoil comfort but eye/scope relationship and grip/trigger distance.

I build all of my stocks or modify factory ones to ensure every dimension fits me as well as humanly possible. And those dimensions are catered to the style of shooting that rifle is destined for.

The goal is to allow you to 'be one' with the rifle. Sounds corny but that is what makes a stock accurate.

Definitely get a good bedding job. This will pay huge dividends when you are trying to tune your handloads.

I upgraded 3 rifles to A-5's this year and couldn't be happier.
I do wish that I had a better look at Ian's Tactical stocks....Too late now.

I had a long look at the AICS, but decided it wasn't for me....It really depends upon personal fit as well as what you are using it for. As Terry Perkins says the tube gun might be the best bet for a competition gun.....

I would rather eat worms than go back to the fit of either of the HS stocks....They are not in the same league as the other stocks mentioned IMHO.
I have seen significant accuracy improvements moving up to a well beaded McMillan over a drop in HS.
