Stock Repair - aesthetic

I would be very carefull with BLO, Try just a small spot.
This will be a spray on satin finish, and polish will stand out like a sore thumb.
try a little bit of satin poly and a small fine artist brush and let dry ( on a small bit) to see what it looks like.

If it is just on the finish, than super fine steel wool may work to blend it in

I say a "light" sanding with 0000 steel wool and apply a satin clear poly. Got nothing to lose..

Only a friendship. I would outright lose my mind if someone started messing with my stock because they thought they damaged it. Tell him what happened and ask him if he’s good with you trying to repair it as well as how you plan on doing it.

Just look like light scratches in the finish to me.

I would say the same .Talk to the owner 1st.
