Hi,

I am looking for an upgrade over my factory stock. Rifle is a T3 Varmint in 300 WSM. Already a nice shooter (groups from 1/2" to 3/4, except for flyers, who are probably 100% my fault).

I want to shoot more and would expect to shoot 400-500-600yds. I decided to invest a little in this one instead of buying a smaller caliber, less expensive to shoot... (for now...)

Do you believe, from your experience, that a stock like a B&C with aluminium bedding will be a good adder..?

Will I spend 3-400$ for nothing?

Thanks

I’m waiting for my B&C to arrive. My Tikka Tactical 308 shoots groups in the low .4” range (most of the time). But I occasionally have that pesky flyer that will ruin a good group. I got the B&C stock in hopes that it will eliminate my flyers.

Stocks dont onto themselves improve the accuracy of the barreled action. They let the shooter be more comfy and more consistent and that makes the system more accurate.

If the stock fits you and accuracy is repeatable and consistent, consider bedding and enjoy...

If you want a different layout to solve a need or a change in ergonomics, a stock or chassis is where you go... but proper bedding continue to be critical. The "best" stock in the world with sloppy bedding will not improve anything.

What you mean Jerry is : if my actual stock has the right geometry for me, I should just bed it and that's it?

There's 2 questions/concerns I have:
Is there a problem right away with the stiffness of the T3 stocks (over a B&C for example)
How do you bed a T3 action? I've seen a lot of videos of savage or REM. But close to none of T3... (they seem quite different in terms of parts and principle. (Removable recoil lug in stock, etc)

Thanks for any comment/suggestion/advice/example

Thanks

I have a few Tikka T3's and the accuracy and consistency improved with a bedded B&C stock. The T3 factory stock don't look like a good candidate to bed although I have never tried one

I have bedded Tikka stocks before, I swap the lug for a stainless steel version from Lumley Arms, then the Devcon goes right over the lug. I also bed about 2" in front of the action (chamber area) and the tang. Pretty simple really, I use Minwax floor polish paste as my release agent, remove the trigger, putty the recesses you don't want the bedding to seep in to and go for it.

A new stock is a nice upgrade, I have a McMillan coming for my Tikka CTR (being chambered to 6XC), these are my favourite stock upgrade.

I put my T3 Varmint in a B&C M40 stock and its great. It’s a very well made stock and the fit/finish has been excellent. It’s comfortable, stiff and I really like the texture. I have McMillans and they are awesome but not worth 3x that you’d pay for one nowadays.

I put my T3 in a MDT chassis but also put another in a Boyds its a hell of a good stock for the price

Forend flex is something that does occur with pretty much all plastic stocks but if you open the barrel channel up alot, it really doesn't need to be a problem. I have done some excellent shooting with factory plastic stocks. Open it up until the barrel cannot touch the stock when you squeeze them together with moderate pressure. A barrel doesn't move a huge amount during recoil so making a gap and problem solved

Bedding a Tikka is different as you have to be mindful of the lug but gunsmiths will be well versed in taking care of this.

No biggie.
