Stockpiliing ammo

My son and I have each just bought an SKS and we've bought a crate or two of ammo. Should we be stockpiling a few cases for the future?

I'm seeing all the stuff being surplus ammo from red countries. Eventually that's going to run out with so many people buying these. When that happens is this ammo still going to be cheap and readily available? Or are we/i going to be bemoaning the fact that I didn't put away a few crates?

In addition to stockpiling surplus, I make a habit of buying commercial ammo whenever im near a place selling ammo, even if it is something small like a box of shells or .22lr

buy it if you can and while it's cheap. I bought a case every other month to stock up and am thinking of picking up some more

Same, if I can afford it and am anywhere selling, I'll try to pick up a box of something small to add to the stockpile. I find I can go through a lot of surplus but slow down when adding other guns/cartridge types to the collection, especially those I find just as enjoyable to shoot at lower volume round counts. But I'd have no problem with having another crate too

I'm in the process of re-stocking my surplus, I let it get down to just shy of 3000rds But thanks to some forum sponsors the pile will grow

Prices are almost at all time lows - $200 for crates right now. That is the same pricing as over a decade ago.

If you have the cash, I would buy some but 7.62x39 is going to be around for awhile, we just can't predict short term availability and pricing. I have seen 7.62x54 dry up on several occasions for months at a time.

I'm picking up another crate of 7.62 this weekend with Wholesale Sports Black Friday Sale and I'm not about to admit how many un-opened crates I already have.

If you have the cash, I would buy some but 7.62x39 is going to be around for awhile, we just can't predict short term availability and pricing. I have seen 7.62x54 dry up on several occasions for months at a time.

Most if not all my 762x39 is Czech surplus and was purchased at 160-170 per crate (14.2c to 15.2c per round). I watch the price increase to 20.5c/round before the market flooded again.

With crates of 1440 going for 13.8c/round, I would definitely recommend picking some up while the price is down. As for how many to you buy/keep, maybe keep that info to yourself.

PS: You guys that take a crate to the range with the intent of shooting through it in one day....thank you!

You can, but usually only local due to shipping costs. Why would you sell? Then you would have to replace it at the higher price!

Its an investement in the sence that you pay less now instead of more later.

When the world runs out of surplus ammo, we will be switching to new production 7.62x39 such has MFS, SCDS, and Barnaul. I noticed some places are selling 7.62x39 in 500 round cases of Barnaul for $200 + tax.

I stock up on ammo by slowly purchasing ammo when ever I swing by a store that sells ammo. When ever I sell a gun that I intend to buy again some day or another gun but in the same caliber, I usually don't give all the ammo I have for it when I sell the gun and this has resulted in me having lots of ammo for guns I don't own anymore.
