Hello everyone, new to the forum and just looking for some help with a rifle build I have planned. I have a TRG sporter in .30-378 that I wish to build into a .338 Lapua for long range plinking. I am currently just looking for pieces to get an idea of what this would cost...I have yet to decide on a gunsmith to piece her together, that will come later. To get to my question, I am wondering if you guys know of a maker that carries aftermarket stocks for this action. I have tried searching, and it seems both McMillan's and Robertson composites' websites are down(?), so I don't know if they have what I'm looking for. I am not too picky about appearance, but something like a McMillan A5 is what I'm leaning towards. If anyone can steer me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Matt

custom stock

i have a Manners comp. and love it if you get ahold of them they will inlet the action to whatever model you want. not many people build on a TRG action so they just wont have one in stock. Micmillan a-5 is nice but i have heard bad things about there customer service. the Manners Comp. guys are great s**t.
both companies will custom inlet for you. i built a 338 lapua a year ago. from star to finish including scope and all accessories the gun cost $7000

Robertson is not taking any new work, and McMillan's site has moved to http://www.mcmillanusa.com/ McMillan does an inlet for the TRG-S, as well as other parts to make it fit, and I agree, an A5 would be the way to go. The A5 is very close to a factory TRG-22/42 stock.

Even though Ian is not currently taking any orders you would still most likely get a stock from him before you would a McMillan.

There is slow and then there is McMillan slow. ;)

Here's what I got when I contacted McMillan. Shipping from their plant to Canada was $50.00. Considering the Canadian dollar is almost at par, it may be a good option right now.

I have the same rifle BTW.

The only tactical stock we offer for the TRGS is the A5. The base price is $498.00. That includes your choice of any color and pattern and the stock fully machined for your rifle. Then if you want a cheek piece, recoil pad or system, sling studs, etc…those are extra that you would just add to the base price. You don’t need any custom/special work done to the stock but you do need a TRGS floor plate that we sell here at McMillan that must be used since your factory bottom metal is “molded in” to the stock. It is $175.00.

Matt

I have a new unfired Sako 995 (TRG-S) barrel in .338 Lapua. I need $250.00 plus shipping for it if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer, but I believe the sporter barrels are a 1:11" twist? I am looking to shoot primarily 300 grainers, so am looking for 1:10" or faster. I am looking into a heavier contour as well...

Smart lad. ;)

The bottom metal is made by the Montana Rifle Company, or whatever their name is now. McMillan gets it from them too, I believe. I bought a set for my TRG-S, haven't got around to restocking it yet. It seems fairly well made and finished, at least the pieces are, and having seen a few of their receivers, they do alright metal work. - dan
