Stoeger 2000, anyone try it yet??

I was looking into buying the Stoeger Model 2000 last year. I did the usual rounds of the dealers in and around Montreal. All had the same story. Great gun that had recently come out. Great copy of the Benelli Montefeltro with nil returns. That was from 5 different dealers.

I ended up buying the Benelli Nova instead.

This year I went back with the firm intention of adding a semi-auto to my shotgun collection. I did the usual rounds of dealers again (the same 5). Their opinions and recommendations towards the Stoeger Model 2000 had completely changed (and I mean all of the dealers). A year later, none of them would recommend the Model 2000. It seems several of their clients had problems with their Model 2000 and that they were now getting qiute a few returns on these.

If you are considering the Model 2000 as an option it is probably because your are budget minded (like I am). My other options were the Remington 11-87 and the Baikal MP-153.

I ended up buying the Baikal MP-153. This model has been in production for many years. All of the dealers that I spoke with recommended it (this time much more than five, I spoke to dealers outside of Montreal).

I don't regret the purchase. I bought it locally but I was also considering buying it from Ellwood Epps in Ontario where they have some of the best prices for this model.

Good luck wth your research. You might want to look up the threads on the Model 2000 on shotgunworld.com. Lots of very good info there as well.

Let us know what you decide.

I know people that have had a lot of problems with their's jamming, missfeeding and other problems, and they have a real cheap feel to them, if anything I'd reccomend going with a Remington 11-87 sportsman or 1100, I've also heard good things about baikals, maybe give them a try.....
