OK while I am here (I do not spend much time on this forum....;))

I have a Stoeger Coach Gun 12 ga SxS with 20" barrels, overall NRA Very Good. I see that they sell new for about $400, taxes in. What kind of money do they sell for in used/VG condition?

And who the heck buys these things anyways? I bought this with a couple other guns from a lady whose father died and she wanted to get the guns out of the house.........

I am interested in buying one of those stoegers, but I would like the longer barrel version. Does anybody own one that can comment on them? Seems to me that there are a lot of advantages to hunting with this type of gun, especially because they have screw in choke tubes.

both baikal and astra make them. baikal has one in 10 ga. 20" barrels and screw in chokes. there's another guy on this forum and that's exactly what he's looking for, a 10 ga. coach gun. as far as a longer barreled version i assume your talking about a 26" to 30" barreled exposed hammer sxs? i think anything in what's called a "coach gun" will have 20" barrels in keeping with term coach gun. i think you may have to look around to find a sxs hammer gun, that's not damascus.

Hello there oneskilledshooter, and welcome to the site! :D

Please see my pm to you about "hijacks." ;) Let's keep THIS thread about my question............and I am sure that there are LOTS of guys with opinions about your questions, if you were to start another thread to ask that.

So what about those coach guns, eh guys? :p

Doug some guys buy them who are interested in Cowboy action shoooting, some guys cause they think they are cool. The Hammerless ones seem to fetch a bit more $$. I have been thinking about one for a road chicken gun. Nice and short for behind the seat. But I an looking at the CZ Durango

I have seen them listed for as high as 360 but as I recall that one never did sell. Try 350 and come down. We will be watching for it in next month's sale good luck

Us cowboys are funny hombres! I see guys spend $1,100 for a used Uberti 66 or 73 and then complain that they had to pay $250.00 for a SxS or $350 for a Winchester 97!

As mentioned by jed, the most common use is for cowboy action, the most common SxS that I see is the Stevens 311 followed by an assortment of old wall hangers that I don't like standing near when they are being shot. The Stoeger is probably the most popular of the "new" SxS's. I would second the "start at $350" if the gun is in nice shape, if it has some mileage on it price drops rapidly.

Better yet pick up a couple more guns and come on out to a cowboy shoot!

Thanks guys! I thought the CAS crowd wanted exposed hammers on their scatterguns. This one is hammerless.

Doug,
Hammer guns are only required if you want to shoot in "Classic Cowboy" catergory, which is relatively small at the present time in Canada. Every other class allows hamerless. I have a .20 ga Uplander I bought from Billy the Kid on this site for $275 the metal was nearly mint but someone stripped the finish off the stock and lightly varnished it and there is a small crack in the wood near the tang - I still feel I got a pretty good deal. If it is in good shape $350 sounds like a good starting point.

This site ALWAYS adds to my education.........:)

But back to WCTHEMI.........nope, the gun is blued metal/wood stock.
