Hey guys I'm looking for a good quality O/U to hunt with as well as do some informal trap shooting at the club. I really like the o/u style but am noticing that the really high quality ones also come with a really high price tag. Basically I want to know from any stoeger owners what they think of the Condor and if they would recommend it as a good everything kind of gun. I've already read a bunch of threads about guys looking for over unders and people telling them not to skimp but I am not looking for a high quality trap gun, just one to have fun with and do some hunting with as well, so have at it.

I was looking to get one of these for a backup and/or loaner when taking noobs to the trap range. My own research produced more than a few threads where people were stating that these started to get sloppy at 2000-2500 rounds of trap loads.

That's about 3 months of trap shooting for me. I put my money into an older classic Browning Lightning that has probably had 20,000-30,000 rounds through it and locks up tight.

I have one in 20ga. I've shot a fair bit of trap with it but probably not 2000 rounds yet. The trigger moves a fair bit before it shoots, but for the price I think it's great. It carries very nicely for hunting. My husband has an 870 but steals my gun whenever he can for grouses.

in what way does it start to get sloppy after 2000 rounds? is this just the lock up of the breech and how bad will this affect accuracy?

Again, this is not my personal experience but rather what I was able to cull from discussion forums (and we all know that everything on the internet is the gospel truth!). FWIW, it was enough to steer me away.

1. the 'action' was sloppy (probably should have said 'receiver')
2. hammer(s) broke at 3000 rounds, needed replacing
3. trigger was 'sloppy'
4. extractors failed to work at least half the time

If you do decide to go the Condor route, look into the features of the different models (Condor and Condor Supreme). A selective trigger and self-extractors (such as they are) are only on the Supreme model.

I was definately going to get the supreme model because ejectors i feel are worth the extra but im hesitant about this stoeger after doing my own in depth research ive come up with many cases of exactly the problems you've stated Jeeped, oh well dad wants a nice browning anyways so he can foot the bill and ill just reap the rewards;)

I had one for hunting for a decade or so. It was OK. Fit was poor for me, but otherwise it worked fine throughout that period (I don't know if it was "sloppy" or not - it was the only double I had ever handled). I probably never shot more than 100 rounds a year with it for the first 8 years, then got into clays a bit and more hunting and that maybe went to abou 250 rounds a year. I started shooting lots of 3" mag steel and using it around sal####er and that killed it right quick! It started shooting both barrels at once and the g'smith said it wasn't worth fixing, so I offloaded it and traded up. For the price, I would suggest it over a Savage/Stevens OU, but otherwise I'd look elsewhere. I'm not familiar with the suggestions that others have made, but my buddy just bought a used Fabarm for 900$ that is an absolute beauty, so good guns are out there for less than a grand - it just takes some patience, looking and luck!

For a bit more money it is MUCH MUCH more, than the Stoeger. I would like to use the same as you, mostly hunting, and occassionally a little trapshooting.

You can see some nice close-up pictures about mine. (which unfortunatelly died, so back for warranty repair, but even Benleys need some sometimes)
 
For what it is worth here is my personal experience with the Condor Supreme.1) Had to oil stone the barrel lug to get the fore end to seat 2) After approx. 1000 dry firings( at Terry Jordan's Wall Chart, using snap caps), and 250 live firings the top firing pin tip broke off. 3) The trigger pull is far to long, and when I pulled the stock off to see if anything could be done, it is apparent that the trigger is where the money was saved in production. The pivot pins look like bits of welding rod. Junk!
If your main interest is hunting and not Trap then maybe OK. But if you get the Trap bug this is not the gun for you. Trap guns get waaaaaaaaaaaaay more use than hunting guns.
So now I'm doing what the boys said to in the first place.......by a Browning! For me I think I'll try a BT-99. Anyone got one for sale?

Great thread on the Stoeger IGA Condor

I do want one for price but I do get thefeeling that they arent made for the long haul if you get into trap or Clays? Anyone try the Mossberg Silver Reserve Series? They seem to be priced right.
