Stoeger Double Defense

A shameless, hijack.

A range report from any nutz who have one would be appreciated. I'd be interested in their performance with buckshot and slugs at 5, 15 and 25 yards. Also how well regulated are the 2 barrels. Etc.

I am just curious...

Why would you want a tacticool double shot gun?

I would suggest that there are far better deals out there... mossberg 500 / 590a1
defender 1300... 870..

all proven.

This is marketed as a tactical defense weapon - and it just seems there are far better options..

Just my opinion here.. not judging :)

I just can't take the video seriously. Ideal for "close quarters and tense situations.."
Expensive too...

My guess would be for the simplicity of the double barrel shotgun

Just get the normal Stoeger coach gun...cheaper, and it works the same (and looks better too!). IMO for a "home defence" gun a coach gun is a great idea...shorter overall length and an extremely quick follow up shot. When will you need to use all 8 or 9 rounds in your full sized?

What a load...

The gun that won the west was a SXS shotgun used mostly by women with very little experience with firearms.

and you squeeze a trigger... ;)

:p

I would look for something slightly milder in recoil with more rounds available myself (for her) or maybe something with exposed hammers (helps new gunners visualise that it's ready to go) after some training as Kraus mentioned.

BTW, it's a shotgun, so you slap the trigger.:p

My dad has got a stoeger double defense, it shoots like any other shotgun,.....to me... but when i use it i find i am spending too much time reloading her. I wouldnt buy one for what they cost, only because a pump action shotgun would be similar or cheeper in price. just my opinion, but if you are into coach guns they are nice.

I have a very old stoeger coach gun. I use it for upland and a camp gun for bears. It would not shoot slugs worth a darn and used 00buck. I figured it was for getting a bear out of a tent so 2yds max. A double is very intimidating to an intruder and quick to go from unloaded and safe to loaded and in use.

The Stoeger coach gun. does not have external hammers and is good gun for the price and I do believe it will stand up to considerable usage with no problems, however I think the basic gun is a better deal. In regards to safety a double is much easier to handle than any pump action, especially if you want to unload the gun. There is also a considerable difference in handling any firearm in a stressful situation than in handling one when one is not under stress. I have seen this quite a few times even with people or are very experienced.

I just bought a Double Defense as I was able to get it used pretty cheap. I wanted a basic coach gun but this fell into my hands. The reason that I wanted a coach gun was as self defense gun at the cottage. We are starting to have a bear problem and actually had a bear pushing on our door in last summer. A break barrel breaks down into a nice small package so that I can stick it in my suitcase without all my neighbors knowing that I have a gun.

I have to say that I like the gun. I have only put about 6 shells through it thus far but it's a lot of fun. I like how the barrels are ported and that both barrels are choked the same so that they use slugs well. I think that I would have preferred a wood grain stock instead of the black. Still, it looks mean as hell and will make most people crap their shorts if they see it in "business mode". In a nutshell, not sure if I would pay $500 for it new, but at the price I paid... freaking amazing.

If you really like the SXS double barrel I would suggest the Polished Nickel Stoeger Coachgun Supreme (removeable chokes)...

...But, if you want your "best bang for the buck" shotgun go with the 590/590A1 or 870.
