I am thinking of getting a Stoeger M3K or a Mossberg 930/640 JM. Purpose: Trying IPSC Shotgun discipline. At the same time, do American Trap with a 28" barrel for either gun. Both M3K and 930/940 are currently available with 24" barrel. Not sure if I can get 28" barrel locally. Stoeger Canada lists an available 28" M3500 barrel which some sites mentioned compatibility with M3K. Nothing so far with JM 930/940. M3K is cheaper. Is JM 930/940 worth the cost for a starter IPSC gun? I asked a few so far, they favored M3K. But is M3K as reliable as the 930/940? Weight? Reliability? Parts? 1301 is not a question. TACORD builds superb Versamax and 1301s. NO question about their quality. Budget is around 1K.

1301 and Benelli M2 rule the roost for standard semi and modified. Benelli Nova is great for standard manual. I’d get a second hand M1/M2 and run with it - they are slightly above your 1k target, but the $ difference is negligible in the long run.

In the beginning, the limiting factors are 1) the gun MUST be reliable (M2 is boringly reliable, only needs a mag extension for starters) and 2) you need to master loading the gun while moving.

You will need a belt and shell carriers - those will be expensive. Invictus carriers are quite handy for double and quad loading. Paired with Safariland ELS clips, they can be added or removed quickly, depending on the stage round count. 3-gun people like Safariland ELS belts, but ELS clips can be easily bolted to a regular IPSC belt.

Edit: between the two you listed, M3K. But…
