anyone heard of this gun maker

found a nice little coach gun that i am very intereted in buying and its made by stoeger.

ive never heard of this maker and wana know what im gettn myself into

also its priced about 550, is this fair value?

Stoeger is one of the most popular break actions. The coach gun made by them (several versions) are very, very good and popular. You can't go wrong. At $550.00 I would expect that to be the coach gun deluxe with removeable chokes and a recoil pad. If it is just the regular fixed chokes with no recoil pad, too much ($450.00 max for that one).

I've always wanted a little sxs coach from stoeger just haven't had the funds yet but I would purchase anything stoeger since there owned by baretta. I would consider that a decent buy for sure.

Stoeger isn't really a gun maker, they are marketers. They import and distribute guns that they source from manufacturers in countries where costs are lower. They have shotguns made by E.R. Amantino in Brazil, which are also found under the brand name Boito. I think the coach gun you are considering comes from there.

I have a Boito which I acquired secondhand and haven't used a lot, and I have handled a couple of Stoegers but not fired them. From this limited exposure my impression is that the manufacturing quality is reasonable for the price.

I have a stoeger Uplander 20ga for bird hunting. I love it. Never had any problems. My best friend has a Stoeger coachgun ( regular model). He got it for like 350$ brand new a couple years ago and its a decent gun.

A.K.A IGA, has been around for years. Made in Brazil they are a decent little gun. I just bought a Supreme Coach Gun in December from Wholesale Sports for $499 plus tax.

IMO, over 550$ is a hell of a price to pay for a coach gun. Ive seen used, excellent condition Stoeger coachguns at Epps for 250-300$

TheTooner is right. Stoeger isn't really a gun maker. They import shotguns, including doubles, among them coach guns, all made by Boito in Brazil. More recent models have the Amantino name on the left hand side of the receiver. I've owned a few and I think the pre-Amantino Boitos are a little better quality But I like them both fine. Never had a problem with the side by side two trigger models. I once had a problem though with a second-hand over/under with the single trigger recoil operated which didn't fire on the second shot.

I kept an eye out for one of these in 20ga for quite some time, the best price I found was at Epps, $350 used with fixed IC and Mod chokes and lots of handling marks on the wood. I managed to get one off the EE for $300 shipped. If you can find one in any guage for $250 in shootable condition, grab it. $550 for a new one with a recoil pad and screw in tubes isn't a bad deal, though $500 from WSS is a better one :D .

Back in January, Epps had a used Stoeger coachgun in very good condition with fixed ic/ic chokes and a leather sling for 259$. I was thinking about it, but I went for a Remington Sportsman 58 instead for the same price, which Ill get more use out of.

As I said, you should have grabbed it. You see them frequently on the EE for $350 or more and they seem to go quick. You could have flipped it and made some money. I don't get mine out much, mostly only when I get out with my dogs for rabbits. But then thats what I specifically bought it for.

I bought one as my first shotgun and regret selling it. Lot's of fun in a small package, great for thick stuff and very reliable.
