So, I'm looking to get SXS and really like what stoger has to offer, but I had a few questions. I was looking at the double defense but there were some things about it I didn't like and wasted to know if they were standard things for there sxs's.
1. Do there normal sxs's have ejectors or do you have to pull each shell out manually?

2. Does the safety come on automatically when it's cocked/ loaded? or will I have to do it manually?

They usually come with extractors so you have to pull the shells out... the gun will "lift" them up and you can easily pick them out....

As far as safety is concerned, you either have it on or off... it is operator dependant....

If you want the gun for "security" there are better options...
 
Thanks for the info. I know what you mean about better options for home defense. I was considering it in part do to the fact that a sxs is really easy to store unloaded and load in a hurry.

when you open them the safety goes on

but if you do not like it that way from what i hear(internet) it is a easy fix
 
Its easy to disable auto safeties. Most cheaper sxs's come with extractors. Once a gun is worn in nice its easy to twist the wrist and have the empties fall out. A normal stoeger coach gun will most likely serve you better then the defense model

Good to know about the safety. The double defense looks cool, but I agree that the normal coach seems to be better all around.
 
The Double Defense looks like a fudd gun. Leave the rails to the AR crowd. I just picked up a Silverado Coachgun. Nothing like the clean lines and satin stainless finish.

Auto-safety feature can be easily disabled without hindering the safety when applied manually on most shotguns. Lots of guys at the club have had it done on their high-end shotty's as well but YMMV. And of course the disclaimer..... A mod like this, though simple, should be done by a licensed / competant gunsmith.

I have a coach gun in the Double Defence

I liked the fack that it has a single trigger, recoil pad and fiber optic bead as front sight ( rail are a nice option to have for mounting "stuff" )

It has ejectors not extractors as explained on the above posts
I had removed the picatinny rails ( as I had no use for them ) ...they just unscrew off like scope mounts

The safety comes on automatically every time you open the action and close it ..... you must then manually take it off via the top tang slide button

After having shot over 150 + rounds I found that I could "pop" the rounds out by a quick shake if I opened the action properly and the chambers were kept clean ( cowboy style )

Fun gun to shoot for close range

PS>>> I'd also looked at the CZ Coach gun ..it had external hammers and ejectors if I remember correctly but price was $ 1000 ( Prophet River had one )
